I'm new here, and I didn't find anything in a search for California Smog Control standards...  So...

Does anyone know how the California Smog Control standards affect rebuilding a 440 engine, or building a new one from aftermarket parts?  Is it the year of the car, or the engine?    :shruggy:

Thanks in advance!

There's a lot misunderstanding about the California smog laws, everybody seems to think that because '75 and earlier vehicles are currently exempt from Smog Check that "there are no smog requirements". By law, even on pre-'76, all emissions equipment must still be in place and functioning; it's illegal to remove or tamper with factory installed emissions equipment.

The reality is that you're unlikely to be cited for missing/altered equipment but that doesn't make it legal. In extreme cases, some cars that have been found to be altered during a routine traffic stop (it does happen) have been cited and sometimes impounded.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
