My silly question thread

I just dropped off the motor at the machine shop, doing a stock rebuild; 9.5 to 1.  So when you say it'll run on pump gas, is that Premium 91 octane?  Or regular 87 pump?  Like I said, a silly question.

Not a silly question at all and there isn't really one answer.  Generally, if someone means pump gas they mean whatever they can get away with that's commonly available.  For example, in your case it sounds like 87 would work (depending on a few other factors-cam specs, ignition timing, heads) but someone with a little more compressionmay not be able to get by with less than 92.

also depends on where you live, higher alltitude can use less octane to sustain the same compression with out detonation-a guy at sea level in florida in the heat needs more octane than a guy in denver, but a good rule of thumb is 9 1/2 to 1 should use 92-93 octane to prevent detonation, hope this helps

What size bolts are needed for my K56 Engle 3 bolt cam?

I tried threading a 3/8 I had lying around, it treaded a bit, but wouldn't go in more than just a hair.  So I got some 5/16 bolts and their way too thin.  Is it metric?

I didn't want to force the 3/8 if it wasn't right.  Figured they should screw in pretty freely.  Thanks for helping a novice.
