Engine Bay pic showing showing factory correct dual snorkel for '68 383 4-bbl?

As the thread topic reads, I'm looking for a engine bay photo of the factory correct dual snorkel air cleaner. It most likely is on an early build Charger (late 1967). Other '68 models using the 383 4-bbl, also early builds most likely, would also have this air cleaner. I attached a few paragraphs from the Paul A. Herd Restoration Guide for Charger, Road Runner & Super Bee listing the history and part numbers of this item, and a photo from the data book showing the entire stock factory engine. Thanks, Gents.  :2thumbs:

From the pic in the data book it looks very similar, if not exactly the same as, the 67 383-4 air cleaner.  Is there a particular detail you're looking for?  (beyond what that drawing shows)

Dans 68

Just the precise photo of the particular assembly. While I have the part numbers, I don't know if they are stamped on the pieces and I would like to get the proper one. Have you a photo of the '67 assembly?

There is one around here someplace but I haven't had it on the car in so long I can't remember where it is.  I can tell you that it isn't in this room  :shruggy:.  I'll check the garage shortly and try and make it to the shop tonight if it isn't in the garage.  The big thing is where the part number is stamped?

Dans 68

HellifIknow... :icon_smile_big:  The part numbers were probably located on the parts box. Lets hope they are on the base and lid! Thanks in advance for looking, Ghoste, but please do it after the sun is back up.  Now go to bed.   ;D

Looks like the '69 aircleaner that was used on cars with AC & CA emissions

Although this one is for a 440....looks different in the front area

Sure does look like it. I'm just guessing here...but that relief on the front of the '69 air cleaner is for the A/C. I'm leaning towards this style of air cleaner for my car as being correct, even with no factory A/C. Thanks.

FOOLED YOU. Bad reference photo.

That is actually a '67 air cleaner with the top bashed in to accept a pie tin. Later, I "ventilated" the base plate to un-silence it. There was lot's of sneaky stuff on that motor (like an extra 68 cubic inches for one).  ;D

Still have the air cleaner sitting in my garage. It's for sale. Contact me if interested.

A '69 air cleaner would have had the PVC nipple on the main housing, not the snorkle.

Interestingly enough, I was looking at a friend's '68 Super Bee this weekend with the same air cleaner, albeit not modified. Car has a 228 broadcast and he's owned it since new. The presence of that '67 air cleaner defies conventional wisdom. Just another case of utilizing something from the bottom of the parts bin.

What size is your carb throat?  I have one somewhere that looks like the 67 440 Magnum top but uses the larger carb throat size on the base plate.  I bought it on ebay because the seller claimed it was correct for my 67.  I don't remember if it has the tube for the breather hose.

Not sure who your question is directed towards, but I ran an AVS, Edlebrock, or Holley under mine, depending on the day of the week. I had to massage the base a bit to clrear the Holley float screws.

He does that a lot Chris.  (he's pretty crafty with the secret mods  :icon_smile_wink: )

471 Magnum - if you get a chance could you snap a few pictures of your friends '68 Superbee air cleaner? And find out when it was built. I just picked up one (albeit "ventilated" - needs a little work to get it back to original) that came off a 1968 383 4-barrel Charger (according to the seller) so I'm 99% sure it is what the car originally came with. It would be nice to see an unmolested air dual snorkel from a 1968 Charger, to see if it has a sticker on it, or even a pie tin. I'm putting that wish on my Christmas list.

I attached a photo of the air cleaner I bought yesterday. Ignore the studs sticking out the sides...some brain surgeon drilled out about 10 holes to get more air flow...it will be fixed.  :P

Sorry. I didn't get a pic. It looks exactly like the one you have (and mine w/o the top bashed in).

The car has a 228 broadcast. He took delivery of it in March '68. Convential wisdom says the car should have come with the unsilenced air cleaner.
