Smart cars are pretty exciting on their own, but those smart guys at Smart have now added some extra  to the lineup.

We have the base model Smart...



The Smorvette...



The Smamborghini...



The Smaudi...

I just don't get it.  Who the F wants to be driving something so damn small in America in 2008?  At that point it's no longer just about being frugal/cheap.  You could probably get a normal-sized compact car that's 4 years older and save just as much total money as with a new Smart. 


And those kinds of uber-practical buyers usually have some concern for safety, has that suddenly gone AWOL when they enter the Smart-car dealership?  The buyers must just want to drive something absolutely tiny on principle.

They have a 2008 yellow one at the local Dodge dealer. I have to say they are pretty freakin ugly, and for $21,888 I think Id much rather put that towards a new gas sucking Chally.

Whats wrong with small? Maybe its easier to find parking for in the city? I know a few folks in cities that have to park on the street. Buying used isn't always the best option. Though I must say 21K for one aint cheap that's for sure.

Since when is the size of the vehicle the be all and end all of safety? The type of accident, rollover, offset, etc is just as important to consider.

Its not like these things are the greatest car ever made but its all about choice. I am sure you hate it when folks throw out the - why do you want to drive around in a 40yr old car when the new ones have some much more in safety and comfort?
