My buddy rob's 02 Dakota v8 4x4, has been starting rough for a while...registers 2 and 6 misfire and always has since this started.  You can crank the engine all day long sometimes and it won't start until you hit the gas pedal.  Then the next time it starts right up.  He wants to change injectors for those 2 positions, he has changed the little coil packs already and no help.  I think it might be the fuel pump.  Any help/knowledge is appreciated.
Thanks

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

When you open the throttle to get the engine to start, all you are doing is giving the engine more air. Sounds like the throttle body is dirty.
I'd remove it and clean it real good before I did anything else.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Yep...cant hurt to also clean the MAF sensor...they can get dirty.

mikepmcs

Aye! Aye!
Throttle body and MAF sensor.  MAF sensor location please.

Beats me   :scratchchin:

The MAF sits on the intake not far from the filter, dont know exactly where in those cars but you cant miss it. Just dont touch it, use an electronics cleaner. Let me say again, DONT TOUCH IT

:smilielol:

Seriously, dont.

thanks

guess the MAF sensors are different from when I did it back in the mid 80's.  They used to be located in the pass kick panel from what I remember.

That vehicle doesn't have a mass air flow sensor.   While you have the throttle body off, make sure you remove and clean the idle speed motor at the back of the throttle body.

Why no MAF sensor??

Chrysler uses the speed-density type of fuel injection.  So they use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor instead.

Oh ya, one more thing  :slap:  :D
