Chrysler service promotions (a rant)

Just curious how many people have found that the service promotions that Chrysler sends out in the mail seldom pan out?  A small thing but all the same it seems to me that no matter what trinket they are telling me I will get if I book whatever the special of the month is is always run out when I get the service done.

I get a kick out of the promotional oil change offers that arrive. I have an 2004 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi, so when the mail offer comes, it says....

"Dear Bob, Your 2004 Dodge Ram 5.7 is due for an oil change. Please take advantage of this service for only $19.95** & keep your truck running good."

**Oil change offer excludes Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi motors.

I got my coupon for my first "free" oil change........would up with a "free" extra quart of oil because the JO overfilled my engine.....
Needless to say that was my first & last visit to my dealer for maintenance on my Daytona...Im sure I will be back for warranty work though :rotz:

Good, then it isn't just me.   We get the periodic phone call from the dealer too reminding of looming service and so far I've been polite about the intrusion but I despise unsolicited phone offers.

Speaking of dealerships.

This spring decided it was time to put new pads on our 04 Durango. The weekend I wanted to do it, I wound up being busy (trip to go see a car) and so I just purchased the pads through the dealership (via my wifes work so we got a discount), and then had them put them on for me while I was gone for the weekend. Now 2 months later the ABS light is on, as well as the brake light on the dash panel. Took it back to the dealership for them to see what was the deal. They said it was a problem with the way the brakes were reinstalled, but since I didn't buy the parts from them they can't warranty the work that they did on my Durango.

I'd be real curious to know what ABS fault is caused by disc brake pads / installation

My wild guess is that when they compressed the caliper pistons to accept the new, thicker pads the fluid reservoir overflowed and then after some use dropped below the proper level. Even if they eventually topped it off it may have logged a fault code when/if they switched on the ignition and the computer saw the incorrect fluid level. Also, when you compress the caliper pistons it's possible to suck air into the system. In any event it sounds as if the guy performing the service was a hack and screwed it up.

BTW, the dealer shirking responsibility and blaming the customer's pads is just plain chicken$hit IMO. How pathetic. :rotz: If the dealer actually believes the pads would cause a problem why would they install them?

I'm with you on this. Recently they had some promotion where for service you could buy a full set of vintage Mopar glasses for something like $6. When I asked about my glasses....."sorry we don't have any". Then why the heck is the poster advertising it on your wall???? Dolts.
