msd wires

I installed red msd wires on a mild street 446. Mopar distributor with a msd streetfire box and blaster coil. After 3 months and 2000 miles the wires appear to have broken down. Car misses at idle .At night you can see intermintant arcing from wires to ground. Had one plug boot get fried by the headers and replaced the boot/end. Using NGK resistor plugs.
These were a $100 set of wires and lasted only 2000 miles.
Any recommendations?

Hated my MSD set i bought. Went with taylors and had a little mishap, i knew one of my engine mounts were bad...well turned out the exhaust manifold was pinching one of the wires when you punched it (fixed the mount) but found a crack in outer rubber of the wire...still NO arching or missing so far. I say they make a damn good wire. BTW there 8.2's.

How about a set of Firecore 50's ? These are excellent wires and very durable....fit nice and look good. True 50 ohm per/ft low resistance. If you need a set lemme know. Available in 8mm or 8.5mm and look pretty much stock (black)....w/o the stock performance.  ;)

MFR426 (Mike) has a set on his 505 Stroker and is very pleased.  :2thumbs:

Hey Ron,  I have been running Taylors on my 440 and have been pleased but it seems the boots come of the distributor cap every now and then.  Is there something to prevent that.  Sorry to jack your thread :shruggy:

Hi Alan, i've noticed the same thing as well from time to time with aftermarket wire sets....often it stems from Big wires (8.5mm or larger) on the incorrect boot. It usually happens when the boot rides up the wire. You could use a dab of silicone to keep them in place.

This is not an issue for the Friecore 50's they fit like a glove and stay put.  :2thumbs:

Thanks Ron, I will try some silicone since the taylors are fairly new but I will follow your suggestion on my next set!

Randy, they come in several different styles for smallblock and big block :

(1) stock cap with manifolds
(2) stock cap with headers
(3) HEI/MSD (male tower) cap with headers

What are you looking for exactly ? Stock cap ? stock coil ? Headers or manifolds ?

As for pricing they run in the $100.00 range + shipping.

Thanks Ron, it will probably be a bit, I am trying to decide if I am going to pull the headers off or not :shruggy:  I have some HP manifolds that will realy make getting around the power plant easier, but have not decided.

Randy, the stock manifold replacement set normally comes with a stock cap end. I can have a custom set made for the HEI/Msd cap to fit with the manifolds. If you are relocating the coil i will also need to know how long of a coil wire you need. When you're ready just drop me a PM and we'll get the ball rolling.  :2thumbs:
