A few of the GM crown told us to stop whining when Chrysler adopted the "Charger" name for their 4 door Brick. !!
But now they get their come-uppance :smilielol: :smilielol:

The Firehawk name is well known by GM performance buffs, having graced some of the highest performing Firebird models from 1991 until 2002. Built by New Jersey based SLP (Street Legal Performance), the Firehawk models received various levels of performance upgrades and could hang with the best of American muscle during its day: the later models could run 0 to 60 mph in around five seconds and passing the 1/4 mile in the mid 13's. While the Firebird wasn't revived along with the Camaro, SLP has decided to use the G8 to revive the Firehawk name with three special edition cars based on the V6 and V8 models as well as a supercharged version. The cars will be sold through Pontiac dealers and will carry a full warranty. Sound great, right? Current Firebird Firehawk owners don't think so. After hearing the news on LS1Tech.com, many of the members were outraged that the Firehawk name would be watered down on something besides a Firebird, in particular a four door sedan. In all fairness, SLP owns the Firehawk name and can use it how it wants, so we'll reserve judgment until the car is actually unveiled and we can see how it performs. Thanks for the tip, Russ!

I believe the Charger name was more widely known than the firehawk.
1969 Dodge Charger 500 440/727
1970 Challenger convertible 340/727
1970 Plymouth Duster FM3
1974 Dodge Dart /6/904
1983 Plymouth Scamp GT 2.2 Auto
1950 Dodge Pilot house pick up

Well, the grand prix was turned into a four door front driver v-6 some years ago but they still had the firebird, when the firebird and the mustangs and/or camaros become four doors or if a G-8 was named a GTO that would be roughly equivalent... but the firehawk was more a tuner application like a Shelby and very few were made, I've ridden in one BTW, it was fast at the time circa 1992 or so... but i could never get over how little room was inside compared to their huge size, especially their length.

btw: there wasn't much outcry when the 300 M came out as a front wheel drive four door v-6 in '99... less so with the newer gen LX series in 2005... of course they had the rear wheel drive v-8 too... still it was a four door. i guess all this goes to show is in Marketing Brand Recognition trumps Product Feature Continuity, or whatever the proper term is...  :shruggy:

I own 2 Transams.
a 93 Hard top in the rare Purple Grey color
and a 99 convertible.
These were 2nd choice after a Charger (which I have also)
Complimenting the collection I have 3 Jeep Grand Cherokees (an 05 4.7, an 05 Hemi 5.7 and a 98 4.0)

Now as a F-body (gm) fan, the Firehawk screams Firebird, not 4 door clunker, same a Chrager screams Classic Mopar, not 4 door imported junk.

I seem to feel different than some, but think cashing in on respected names, is just a low way of making money. I mean, would you buy the "Intimidator" edition Camaro just because Dale sr. put his name on it?

I would like to know why you have 3 GCs?.. are they modded and or custom?.. do they hold some special significance to you, do you go off road in them?.. I can understand two FBs though, though I like the earlier years, especially the 70-71s. But why the GCs?..
I'm not busting your chops, understand, i'm just wondering.  :shruggy:

BTW:
Re: your comment about "Imported junk" is that becasue the G8 Is actually a Holden from down under so it's concidered an import?..
from what tests i've read they are hardly "junk" Stock G8s slightly edge out the R/T Charger in performance tests and i'd be really interested to see the "firehawk" up against a SRT.

I think the G8's are pretty nice cars, especially for the money!  I am hoping to pick one up over the winter if I sell my Grand Prix GXP soon.

G8 is a nice car.....but narrow as hell compared to the previous Grand Prix it replaced.  Its a LOT smaller and cramped inside. The trunk is also much smaller than the previous model.

My next door neighbor is a General Manager at a Pontiac store and brought one home. It was the GT performance version,  it looked tough, sounded cool, and drove awesome . But I could never own one.  Its like buying a full size car, and only getting 1/2.
