Time for a little whining/venting. :'( :RantExplode:

I put my Dakota pickup up for sale locally and some guy calls me this morning and asks what my bottom line cash price is. I had listed it for $1,995 and I told him I'd take $1,500. So he shows up and looks at it for about four minutes and then offers me $1,200. And I'm thinking 'didn't we already talk about this earlier' but my outside voice says no, it's already priced less than I think it's worth at $1,995 so he eventually bumps his offer up to $1,250 and I say no and then he bumps it up to $1,350 and I say no again so mumbles something about calling me later and then he leaves.

I can appreciate that the guy wants a good deal, I would too, but I wasn't lying when I told him $1,500 on the phone. Do people do this type of thing frequently? He asked me what the bottom line was and I told him and yet he thinks that price is the starting point for negotiation. Nope, sorry dude.

Anyway, that's my bitch o' the day.

Your price should have went up when he offered you 1200 you, should have said no But I will take $2,000.

it happens all the time.. i hate it as a seller, but do it as a buyer.. not like that though. typically if i jew someone down from 1995 to 1500, i think that's pretty damn fair

It happens all the time. You should list it at 2,500 and say 2,000 over the phone then he comes out and offers 1,750 say no 1,950 and he bites?

I never ask the for the owners bottom price.I have a look and make an offer. some cars i have paid full price for because they were priced to sell while others were overpriced to me and i would then make an offer.

I guess it's time to come in here and keep it real: I woulda told that guy, straight up, to go ---- himself; "I said I'd take 1500". Period. I hate that shit. Ask a guy what he'd take for whatever it is, and if it's up your alley, pay the man. If not, get to steppin'.

I'm with Travis. I call and ask for a bottom line to decide if it's even worth me burning the gas to see. Many people bump the price so they can drop it for that GOTTA HAVE IT "CASH PRICE".  I have been known to bump it too. I have also gone to a persons home and looked at something they described as a NICE CAR or NICE PART and found pure JUNK.. I am pretty good about letting them know what an A-HOLE they were for telling me one thing and having another... It pisses me off when people waste my time and money..

Sometimes I wonder if people are just so lonely that they want ANYONE to visit with them...

A few weeks ago I looked at some intakes and a set of (PERFECT BB MOPAR V-COVERS) and a PERFECT Street Dom. manifold. One cover had a crack in it and the SD had 3 stripped carb stud thread holes. The other had an oversize stud in it..  I didn't know if I should laugh out loud or kick the shit out of him for telling me the were SOOOOOOOO GREAT...  That was about a 50 mile round trip for nothing.

Did I mention I get about 11 MPG with the A/C on?? That wasted trip cost me about 17 bucks or more...  :flame:

So as a rule I ask for a bottom line. If it fits the budget I go. If not I tell them right up front..

Another is a 65' drop top Coronet in Valrico, Fl.  It's on Ebay AGAIN. I got in touch with him and asked what his reserve is.. (Mind you, there was about 20 pics. of the car on ebay). I nearly shit when he said $1500.00....   Even knowing that pictures lie FOR the seller, I was willing to go $500.00.. It ended AGAIN tonight with a top bid of $505.00... Last time it ended at $515.00. I have them both saved..  :brickwall:

Shoot man, i would be more pissed about the 2~3 hours wasted on a Saturday vs the $17!

Exactly. I have no problem with people calling and asking what my bottom line is because that way I figure the deal could be finished as quickly as possble. No haggling, no hassle. This boob today apparently thought it was worth two hours and 50 miles to argue over $150. No skin off my nose. I was just relaxing when he showed up and less than 10 minutes later he was gone.

I just 1 up'ed the last guy!   :icon_smile_big:

Another thing I like to do with CARS and TRUCKS is print out what Kelly Blue Book says it is worth. Sometimes I even do it when I am going to look at a vehicle.. I alllllllllways check it before going just to have good ammo.

A few things I have noticed lately:

1) NO MONEY   them or me...
2) Way less parts available in "GOOD" shape.
3) More and MORE kids selling their 24" stage coach wheels. Trying anyway....
4) More people think their JUNK is GOLD...

So I haven't sold anything lately. No sales = no Coronet parts....   I'm bummed.....    :'(

I remember once I was selling a 69 Riviera and a couple come over and seen my 68 Nova and wanted it instead. I said no way unless you have this amount of cash. He came over three different times trying to loball me. The third time he came over and I said get the rest of the money out of her purse or get out of here. He went back to the car and she opened her purse and got out the money. I knew they had the money and found out who really wore the pants and it wasn't him.

Yea I get crap like that all the time. I remember when I was trying to sell my old Scout. I had it listed at $1500 and this guy calls me up and wanted to know what I'd take for it if he came and picked it up and paid cash. So I told him $1250 seeing how I already had close to 3k in it at the time. Anyways he came by to look at it and he proceded to hand me $700 cash. I said is this some kinda deposit. He said no will you take this if I carry it home today. I laughed in his face and told him he could either give me the $1250 or go the hell home. He got in his truck and left and I never heard any thing else from that guy again. Dumbass ::)

yeah that turns into a two fold problem/solution.. with me i can't help but ask the best cash price to someone over the phone. i tell them flat out if i waste a trip down there and the car is as described i WILL get it, and won't haggle them anymore. as long as it's as described.. so i am honest when it comes to the "bottom line" thing. others abuse it, and think that magic number they are told means more negotiating room just because you show up with a trailer.. then get pissed when you won't take any less. well the way i see it, you knew the "bottom dollar" price, if you were interested in it for real, ya better take that amount with you just in case, or be prepared to turn around and go home.

It's been my experience that it's tough to do any bargaining when you show up with a trailer if you've driven any kind of distance.

Thats a really nice dak Bull and a fair price. I don't think you'll have to much problem selling her. Hell, Id put a new TPS, coil and tune up and I'd keep drivin her myself if I were you.
Unless your in the market for a new one now.

I don't really know what I want to be honest. I like the Dakota but it really doesn't fit our family too well and yet I need a pickup for various things. I'd almost rather have a quad cab Dakota instead of our Durango but it might be a hassle to make that trade. Any newer SUV with a V8 is going to be hard to get rid of these days.

I am a salesman, and i get way more shit than that everyday :angel:sometimes its hard not to lose my temper when some jackass spends 2 or 3 hours of my time to offer 5 or 6 grand less than asking price, but its the name of the game i guess
