what does the maltease cross stand for on the front of my block on my 68 440 motor

Crank is .001 undersized on one or more journals.  If it's a Maltese Cross with an "X" it means .010 under.

You can buy undersize bearings.  Are you doing other machine work in the rebuild.

no car had 72 thousand on it just a stock bottom end and new oil pump so just get stanarded bearings
