I was going to check... has anyone here sent off their Superbird/Daytona headlight pods and had them restored?  I am ready to send ours off to someone who can rebuilt and refinish them toan accurate factory finish.  Who does everyone recomend?  Thanks for your help.  Also, does anyone have a nice original pair of Superbird headlight buckets they want to sell?

Are you talking about the vacuum actuators, or the actual fiberglass doors, or something else?

CornDogsCharger

Yes, the right and left vacuum actuators.  They work fine but I don't want to get this car together and then a year from now they stop working.

Daytona,
In your other thread(s) you got your parts from Mike at BE&A, did something happen to them or did you just find something better over the course of time.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Basically my new pods are sitting in the box, right where I left them months ago. I just haven't gotten to the point in my project where I can install them. I've been busy with non-car related projects this summer, and when I have had the chance to work on my car, I've had to deal with one problem after another....This IS supposed to be fun, right?

Maybe I'll just buy a boat... ::)

Justin, if I were in your shoes, I would go with Wilson Products on rebuilding your existing actuators.    That is the method I currently have confidence in.

70Sbird

Justin,
I sent a headlight actuator off to Allen Wilson only after I tried most of the other options.
as of right now I would not consider ANY other options!
Allen is DA MAN!!!
You will not be disappointed.

Thank you for all the replies.  I will get in touch with Allen and get the Superbird's acuators lin line to be reworked.  One more question.  In the rebuild, will they also refinish/replate everything back to OE specs?  Thanks!!

NOS actuators are painted /coated in semi gloss black

70Sbird

I think the OE finish on the actuator s is pretty tough to duplicate. Allen and I discussed this on th phone, but I just decided to have him paint mine semi gloss black. My car is a driver and I was more interested in function over appearance.
good luck

:iagree:

The factory-original finish is a light grey phosphate-type finish, not paint.  I wonder if Wilson Products could refurbish the housings in some type of a light grey finish even if it wasn't phosphated.  I'm attaching two pictures of Day One takeoffs that I purchased for my Daytona project.  They should give you an idea of the original finish.

For whatever reason, the NOS off-the-shelf replacement parts were indeed painted black as Doug mentioned.  AFAIK, service replacement (NOS) units are distinguishable from the assembly-line original actuators only because of the finish though.

Can stock Headlight vacuum actuators be modified and used for the same purpose ?

pettybird

they're stock 68-69 charger pieces...is that your question?
