I'm building a diorama of Barrelcuda (up on the barrels). At this time, the rust work is finished. The interior is finished and the body is painted.

These pictures were taken right after I finished "rusting it out".

Awesome.

Rust is a tough thing to fake that well.    It's easy to poke some holes, but making it look real is something else entirely.

And old Mopar guys like us REALLY  know what rust holes look like.   ::)

mikepmcs

Yeah Cody, how the hell do you do that anyway?

Looks really crappy :smilielol:, by that I mean you did an awesome job!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

More pictures please.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

looks like there is a lot of plastic in it from those first pics ;D

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Looks like it'll turn out really good looking really bad.

What was the price on the for sale sign in the trunk? $225K wasn't it?

Cody thats a pretty cool idea, I'll be keeping an eye out for the finished pics. Not to change the subject, but
Magnumcharger , any updates on the Deora ?

I took a pin vise (a mini manual hand drill) with a very small bit and drilled out some holes. Then I took a sharp hobby/exacto knife and did the rough looking cutting.

It also works to grind down the thickness of the panel from behind before you cut the holes.  Gives it that "paper thin and crumbling" look.

More pictures. I still have to make it rusty (the colour part of it). I also have to do the vinyl top.

Interior. It looks more dirty in person. The interior was difficult because I had one picture (all you could see was a bit of the front seat and dash) to go on.

The kit came with a 426 Hemi so I'm using a 340-6 pack from the '70 Challenger T/A kit that I converted to a 440-6.

How do you do a vinyl top? :shruggy: I might do that to a model I have if it isnt too hard. :coolgleamA:

I've seen many techniques. Some people lightly pebble the roof with primer, knock some of the pebbles off with steel wool, paint the body, mask it off and then paint the roof black BUT you need very good masking tape for that (Tamiya stuff is awesome- I use it). The way I'm using is painting masking tape black and then putting it on using a hobby knife to fit it around corners etc etc. I tried the technique on a '69 Charger roof (I had a bare shell so I cut it up) I had laying around and it worked good.

Cody, what are you doing to keep the paint on the masking tape?  I shot a car friday, so I just ran back to the paint room and grabbed a piece of tape that had some basecoat on it(tough to find a piece without clear on it)...anyway, I could scrape the paint off with my finger.  Just wondering?

I don't know. I'll figure out something once I get to that stage.

Chris, you have a PM.

I painted the vinyl top, blacked out the tailight panel, rusted and oiled up the engine, did the wire work on the engine, did the chrome trim and did the rust colouring work. Pics to come.
