I'm going be building a model replica of Mr. Angry. It won't be exact but I'm going to make it as close as I can. I'm in the garage right now (laptop is on the fender of my '69) and I just shot the first coat of primer on the body parts of the model. I'll post pics later and as I progress.

Yes, I was in the garage working on a model. I've been doing a few minor things to my real car in the last week or so but nothing really big.

I'm working on Mr. Angry, a '70 Challenger T/A, a field and shed diorama and a Barrelcuda diorama.

I plan on fully detailing Mr. Angry.

Mike DC

That should make a very cool end result.

Are you gonna use truly flat black paint on the model?

I know the 1:1 scale car is done that way, but a 1:25th scale might look a lot more accurate to the real thing with a more satin or even semigloss black finish.  (Same reason it's such a challenge to make a glossy finish look correct at that scale.  Whether it's glossy paint or flat, either way the "bumps" in the finish have to be 25 times smaller than on the 1:1 scale car.)

That is a 68, Cody and I have been talking about it some, he is building Mr Angry and not the Daytona, I am building Mr Angry X2 (One for both Mike and I) and it is a PROCESS. Especially when you are working 52 hours a week!

MoparManJim

I been wanting to build a Mr. Angry model myself.. thanks Cody for the modvention on that now LOL.

I use Revell models as they are detailed but NOT detailed enough for me   :icon_smile_big: http://www.cglfc.com/wforum/viewtopic.php?t=20076&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 as I always half to add more of my own detail to them.

So I know what Cody means about detailing. If you use a Amt kit your in for a hurting for detail as those kits hardly has any. I'll be watching this thread from time to time to see how the that Cody is working on turns out.

Also watch out for Revell 69 model kits as I been hearing that afew have been getting 69's and receiving '68 grills in the kits and not the '69 grill. I was told if you call up Revell and let them know they will send you the correct grill.

Find a local Hobby shop, they should have the new 68 charger, if not the 69. Ebay tends to have a large selection and there are some great online hobby shops like www.towerhobbies.com

The 73s AREN'T easy to come by. The least expensive kit to find for a 73 Charger is the old MPC "Supercharger" kit. Red on the box with Cragar Super Tricks.

Expect to pay about 45 bucks or so for one, but sometimes you CAN get lucky.

About all you can do is hit the bay every once in a while and do a search.

Let me know if you need a pic of the box.   ;D  And NO mine isn't for sale!!!

I have I have 5 different model versions in the box of 73'-74' Chargers. I was just hoping he had one or a shell in his collection maybe. :D :shruggy:
I have been into the Mopar hobby for many years and collected some rare toys.
I just do not have any doubles of any. I am trying to find all the 3rd gen kits I can. I think there are a few more 73-74 Charger variations, then I will have to start on the hard to find 71-72 kits. :icon_smile_tongue:

The body is painted, chassis is done (exhaust, front and rear suspensions), interior is 50% done.

Next step is doing the chrome on the windows, putting the stripe on, then clearcoating it.

I'm waiting for the aftermarket distributor and wires to come so I can start working on the engine.

My goal is to get it done by November 8th (big model car show) but it will be hard due to the detail I'm putting in the car.

Progress pictures:

The wheels aren't as deep as the 1:1 wheels but its the closest thing I could find....

Coming up with ideas on how to do the belts....

Removed the front bumperettes...now the question is..how will I "fill in" the chrome where I removed the bumperettes....

After paint.....

Rear suspension in primer....(its now painted and installed)

Cody, the best way to solve the bumper dilemma is to COMPLETELY dechrome the bumper, CAREFULLY remove the bumperettes and then smooth it with a polishing kit, then use ALCLAD on them so they look chrome again, you can also have them replated.

Chrometech is the best place for that. I'm debating which way I will go with Mine and the one I am doing for Mike.

The wheels are a real issue. I jokingly told Mike once that he needed to put a different set on there to make my life easier.

Then a model buddy MADE and cast me a set of wheel centers that fir the pegasus custom wheels, then we're back to that Chrome issue again. I've had to search to get a tire set together and honestly DON'T know where the fronts came from. I just lucked into 4.

Man there are so many compound curves in 68-70 Charger bumpers, getting smooth BMF on those things is pretty much impossible. I've tried it and it's a freakin NIGHTMARE!

69bronzeT5

Thats the problem...the model show is in a week and a half. Looks like Mr.Angry might not make it (I'll try my best). I'm gonna work on my '70 Challenger T/A to get it ready for the show. Barrelcuda is almost done.

I won't be able to finish the model for the show. Mainly because I want to wire this engine (which means I would have to buy the stuff from the US because the stores here dont sell that stuff)...it would take over a week for a money order to get down there and then another week for the stuff to get here. The show would be over by then. Plus, rushing a model only helps you make mistakes.

I'm putting the model aside for now so I can finish Barrelcuda and a Challenger T/A for the show. I'll be building Mr.Angry over the winter so I can take it to a show in March (the show I was originally wanting it done by).

Since my scratch building skills aren't good enough to make a console, I used the stock console with some add-ons to get a close look (not too close but close enough) to the one in Mr. Angry. Same goes for the rear seat. I need to do another layer of carpeting because as you can see, it's a bit chunky in one area. I have more pictures of other progress but I'll post them when I get home.

That model is looking good so far, I like how you are doing it. Making the hinges isn't that hard after you get the hang of it. The trunk is easy kinda, the hood is as while, it's those dang door ones that kinda get ya at times with the interior tube walls.

Nope.   Too hard.

Spray it with Alclad and be done.

I found a place online that can strip it and re-chrome it for $3.

The seats came from a 1:25th diecast '70 GTX. The bottoms and backs were attached weird so I unattached them and then glued them back together after paint.

So....there is a set back regarding the build. I left the body out for a while on my model desk. It was a sunny day a while ago and I decided to leave my windows open to air out my room. Well....I guess one of our cats jumped in the window and decided to land on my model desk. Stuff was thrown everywhere, some of my thinner jars got knocked over (thank god onto napkins so it soaked it up), parts went everywhere and some how, the stripe on the model got a chunk ripped out of it and some of the paint got scratched. So I have to re-paint it and get a new stripe :rotz:

I just built that kit with my 3 year old grandson today. (okay, he chose the wheels.)

Those seats are STUPID as they are in the kit. (and the "engine" does not fit in the engine bay - I had to file down the edges and it's still not quite right...)

Good plan to separate them and glue them back together. They look good.  :2thumbs:

Sorry about the set back, but keep at it.

It's coming along :nana:

DC-F...usually diecast kits have fitting problems. It's quite common :yesnod:

I'm going to go unmask it right now. I put our names and the date on the deck lid, then I masked everything off and clear coated it so the writing wouldn't wipe off (it's not paint).

I'll snap a pic too.

Here it is..

the idea was to spend a quality 30 to 45 minutes and have something special to share at the end.

it took almost 30 minutes to fit the engine in and it's still not right... but oh well.

I wrote our names on with a gold ball point pen that my had kicking around. It wiped off rather easily. So, I masked everything off and sprayed the deck lid with some Krylon Crytsal Clear.

"bumpa" is a name that stuck when my oldest grand daughter couldn't say grandpa...

I took the seats from that exact model. I also took the rollcage and fire extingusher for a '71 Charger race car. Looks good! Nice guitar too :icon_smile_big:
