I was cruising home about 55 mph car shut off. Just filled up with 94 ultra. # 8 plug wire fell off . Felt car miss. Five miles from home, kept driving. Engine shut off . No sputtering ,just quit.
MSD streetfire ignition. Msd wires.
Poped hood, wife cranked car ,red light showed on msd box. On third try started normal. Saw # 8 plug wire arcing. Drove 1/2 mile home.
Can an unattached plug wire cause the msd box to overheat?

Hard to say, depends on the internal design of the MSD.
technically I could see a dead short to ground overheating it, but it could have internal protection built in both ways, if it is failing on every 8th spark to discharge then it may shut itself down.
