what is the advantage of the solid front axle, i understand the weight distribution advantage of moving the rear wheels forward, but why the solid front axle?

it allows you to set up the front suspension however you want...you can run a pair of elliptical leavesprings, or a single tranverse leavespring with a pair of small shocks or whatver. you can dial in your own preffered geometry and ride hiegth and keep the weight shifted to the back of the car.

the goal is immediate front end lift and strength when it comes back down. emphasis on straight line handling. if he makes his own square or round tubed front clip he will also get to ditch all the weight of the k member lca's etc while gaining massive strength. the front clip should weld through the firewall into the passenger compartment cage and so on.

cool project. basically the birth of the 'real' funnycar/flopper chassis.

I want to revive this thread...yesterday I scored a complete clean no rust running 65 cuda with a 273 in it for FREE ( thing has been sitting in a garage 4 blocks from my house forever.... and its going to be the Chiselers Team drag car. looking at basically going down the same path as this build...and a bit of the 43 jr car seeing as we have a spare 440 and I have a staggered dual quad intake for it we can do the kick-ass 2 lil staggered hoodscoops.... I'll be taking the car over to the shop in a couple of weeks to start the dissassembly and will document it all fairly fully. Lucky for us Chiseler Rolf used to be a fabricator at Brizzio's and currently has his own shop so we intend some wicked body and frsame mods as well as shiny shiny 60's style paint... Plan is to race it Wednesdays up at Sears Point/Infineon, strictly for kicks. Although we already have our first sponsosr-Bell Helmets and Dunlop Guitars!

we will be running fiberglass fenders and hood and I'm going to make a set of fiberglass bumpers using the stock ones as a pattern...as no one makes those.

this will be a 18 month project, and I will try and post it all here, since this is my fav car site........

The public DEMANDS a match race when these cars are built, preferably with a lot of video and old-school antics (resin burnouts! DUDES!). Best two outta three? *digs out "Gasser Wars" and "Super Stock" from bookshelf and drools a bit*
