Chuck's Brother and his wife are in Bidor, Texas. He works a pipeline there. Their gonna be evacuating probably tomorrow. :shruggy: Last time they had to leave, they went all the way to Texarkana. They may have to go further this time. Their regular home is in Tenn. But they are in a 40' travel trailer down at a R.V. park. :eek2: He makes good money there, I just don't think it's worth this crap! :rotz: Good luck to anyone in Ike's path! :2thumbs:

Well, when I talked to my sister-in-law yesterday, she "said" bidor! Could be Vidor? :scratchchin: But she has a very heavy southern drawl, and it's worse over the phone! :hah: :nana: All I know, is it's between Beaumont & Orange, just above Port Arthur, Texas! :shruggy:

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, GUYS & GALS, SUPPORT YOUR AMERICAN RED CROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :patriot:

They are so overly tapped out that they are taking loans to help out lots of areas and situations. Even if you don't live in the area that is being impacted, you can still help! Donate food, money, clothes, toys, cots, blankets, give blood, volunteer!!!!!!! :yesnod: Your donations probably won't go to Texas, but it will free up other resources for them! :yesnod: You CAN earmark your donations specifically for Hurricane Ike too! Now go clean out your closets and donate!!!!!!!! :2thumbs: THANKS!

Hunker down Troy.
I called today to see if the in-laws wanted to drive up here to be a little safer. They've decided to stay put. They live in Champion Forest so they should be out of the flood area. The sis-in-law and her family live in Clear Lake and they have moved up to her dad's in Champ Forest. They may end up with 11 feet of water in their home there in Clear Lake. Hope not.

The storm wil track right through here and the eye should hit us 24 hours after it hits you guys. We're 500 miles north of you.  The winds should be down to around 65 mph by the time it gets this far north.

Hang in there.

We moved from Spring, TX in '82. We returned to the Houston area in '83 to work claims from Hurricane Alicia. I spent a lot of time on Galveston Island handling insurance claims. Neighborhoods that I had visited in '82 were no longer there. It was difficult finding the homes that were left since all of the street signs were gone. Many of the vehicles and boats that I had to look at were hundreds of yards from the house.
Alicia was a Category 3, but was much smaller than Ike.
We're thinking of all of you.

I hear now it's down to a category 1. Is it going to peter out?

Yes, it made landfall 2:10 this morning. They say its moving fast which is good but now its time for the tornadoes.

I'm close to the downtown area, medical center, and we just got our power back on :) There was minor flooding/leaking but was contained and was much luckier than others. Others more south, however, will prolly be out of power for a few more days if not a couple weeks. Got lucky over here on this one.

Saw the damage on TV, and it looked bad. Hope the Chargers in the garage fared okay!  :yesnod: Hope your okay Troy!

I spoke to Troy on his cell phone twice today. He and his family made it through the storm just fine. No real damage to speak of though some of his neighbors weren't so lucky. He has lost power and is on Generator. As we can see by the news, the city of Houston and the surrounding area took a big hit. Let's hope and pray that any other members here living in the area are fine

Troy will call me again tomorrow and I'll post any developments.

My Mom says the Houston area Mopar dealerships she's a part of took a pretty hard hit.

I'm sitting in Frankfurt, Germany right now about to head back to the states.  Been texting my wife the entire time.  We're in Spring.  Some shingles off the roof but other than that, no big deal.  No damage and everyone is safe.  Kept telling her where the eye was, when the big rain bands were heading her way.  She lost power at midnight and has plenty of water and food.  I get home monday and glad I have a house to come home to!

Thanks guys...........
Back to work now.. So, there's some resemblance to normalcy.. The lines at the gas stations are still long, even at 6:00am in the morning.... As time goes by and more stations get power to pump the fuel, it'll get better... Most people are trying to find fuel for their generators....... I've been lucky so far.. I filled up both my vehicle, including the Charger and our 2 5 gal. cans for the generators.......... Boy, experience is paying off now, no lines for me................. Experience is a great teacher and a LOT of Houstonians who are transplants have learned a valuable lesson..  This will probably go down as the worst Cat.2 Hurricane ever.............

Corpus was supposed to get nailed, but it moved Eastward.. Now, the communities on the Bolivar Pennisula north of Galveston were devastated, literally......  They were on the dirty side of Ike... It's bad...............

We caught the tail end of it here in Ohio. Gusts to the upper 80 mph. Trees are still down, My cable just came back on about an hour ago. A mile down the road, they don't expect to get their lights on till late Sunday and there are still plenty of roads closed with wires and trees down.

Same thing with me. I have had three days off school because my town doesnt have power. Ours never went out thank god.

It went through the STlouis area, some flash flooding and my rental property got some water in the basement, but other than that we were real lucky here.

We got nailed. I just got power (and water) again yesterday afternoon but the place I work is still shut down. I have no internet access which is killing me. Oh well, we only lost a few trees and the house is fine. Our neighbors definitely had a harder time than we did.
