OK
I have a 73' Charger Rally with the Rally gauges.
Question is,
I found a 71' Rally Cluster with the tach and I want to know is will it work and how hard will it be to make work. :shruggy:
The 71' cluster has the wiring but I am told that it can be a pain and that you need to get a new fuse box?
Is it to hard to make work or should I just hold out for a 73-74 cluster with the tach?
Yes, this is the on for sale on moparts right now. :icon_smile_tongue:

simple answer... yes... just need to change wiper motor switch for lates 72s to 74 or find the correct plug on harness to match with existant switch, because 71 and fist 72 switches are bigger and diff prongs setup!

then for tach, just need to add couple of wires and make the tach harness... there are harnesses available already made, but thats an easy job to make by yourself, no need to spent money on that extra harness really

If you have the clock cluster, just need to remove clock and mount the tach

71 cluster does have 150 mile speedo though!

Nacho,
What I want to do is take out my 73' Cluster and put in the complete 71' cluster. Is the cluster swap easy? Will the wiring match up?
Some douche told me that I need a entire new harness & fuse block. :shruggy:

wiring match? yes, will need just get or make a tach harness and use 72/74 wiper switch. 71 wiper switch is diff.

Need complete harness if you have standart cluster, just that. BUT since you are changing from Rallye to Rallye, won't have problems. Your existing 73 harness will work perfect and will be the right one to the year of the car with seatbelts wires and stuff, that 71 harness doesn't have.

Nacho,
So I should be able to disconnect my 73' rally cluster and unplug everything, then make a wire harness for the 71' tach, and just put the 71' cluster in and change the light switch and my 73 wires will hook right up to the 71' cluster?
Thanks for all the help man.
I really would like a tach but don't want to do way to much work and cut up ail my wires.
Do you have a tach in your Charger?

light switch is the same ( is the same in fact than standart cluster too ), just WIPER switch changes... need to mount your same existant 73 wiper switch

Then yes, make the tach harness ( they are just two wires... ign coil and acc source ). no need to cut ANYTHING, just add those wires. The tach harness on factory setup is in fact a separated harness from the rest.

and everything will match PERFECTLY...

My cluster is/was in fact a 71 one, what I changed recently also the bezel to match the right 74 bezel with icons at a side of switches. Thats' why I know about the wiper switch.

OH, AND OF COURSE, need to use your existant A/C or Heater control... 71 is different too...

I don't have a factory tach, my cluster is with clock... I have an autometer tach below dash ashtray... the smaller one available.

Thanks Nacho,
You are the best man. I am going to get the cluster.

with tach ? definitelly yes... in fact not to say CHEAP, but nowdays, is not expensive really. Specially if you think, the stock tach by itself could it be on that price ( if in working conditions, and sometimes not even in that way )

Some douche told me that I need a entire new harness & fuse block. :shruggy:

Hey Kernel Kerr-Plunk,that "DOUCHE",being me,told you that you MAY have to swap out your 73 harness to the 71 cluster because of the seat belt BS,etc, not that you needed a new one.And the fuseblock,I told you they were different through the years, because when I replaced my burned up block, someone gave me one for a 72,and it was slightly different.I finally found one for a 71 and put it in. Obviously you dont listen as usual when you ask about this stuff.
I also told you the wiper switch was different, and possibly the h.light switch because the 73's dont have hideaways and they MAY be different for that reason, dont know for sure. I also told you that I have both color schematics, and that you can see what is different and what is the same.
Next time I'm over I'll have to decide which face to slap.
You had a hard time figuring out a bad starter when you yourself told me you dropped a wrench and grounded it out with the key on as you watched it smoke, and wondered why the starter sounded like the battery was going dead after that. This should be interesting.
Take that $300 and give both of your cars tune-ups,like they have needed since you bought them 3 years ago so they quit dying and stalling out on you at red lights,THEN put in the cool ad-ons. Take care of the basics first Kernel.
That factory tach is useless if that terd dont run! I got the schematics if you need them, come get'em or call me,....penis.

well, the slight differences on harness allong the years has nothing too do with cluster itself.

the fuse block is not really diff, just that some are labeled with fuse function and laters are numbered... at least I haven't noticed a noticeable diff beside that one  :shruggy:
