I am thinking of making a Piczo site dedicated to the infamous convertible Charger.

Anyway, I need to see if there are enough pics of convertible Chargers before I go doing a lot of work, and only find a couple of pictures. Whether it be a First Gen, Second Gen, Third Gen, Daytona, 500, or any other, post it up if it had the name Charger, and is convertible, post it up!!

I am thinking of also putting a seperate area for "Muscle Wagons" and "Wings Not Made" also. Throw those in if you have them also.

 there were also at least two different third gens that popped up over the past few years and, I asked DFS440 to photo shop a couple in b-5 and a different color, they are in the photoshop thread... any idea where those third gen converts ended up?.. some of you retarded third gen guys should know.

I'm the owner of the blue Topless 1969 Dodge Charger (that is pictured above with the 1969 Green Charger).  A Mopar/myspace friend of mine has informed me of the pics showing up on here on various occasions (I guess someone got them off of my myspace profile and posted them on here), so thought I'd pop in to say hello!

The story of the topless Charger is:

I was on ebay back in 2000, with the flu and a fever...(Dodge Fever?) so I was just playing around by putting in "1969 Dodge Charger Convertble" Just to see WHAT would pop up, knowing that Chargers were never made as such.  I guess you could say the fever had to do with this.  Anyway, it was a surprise when that car pulled up on my search results.  I was thinking perhaps someone was thinking of Charger instead of Coronet, since I have seen that happen.  Nope, it was that car.  It was listed for $500 with extra/bonus parts.  Again, the price was a STEAL, no matter the shape of the car, because of all the parts it came with (my dad and I own two other 1969 Chargers, so parts were very needed).  Well, I put my bid in at around $700, and ended up with the car and parts. 

Now, I have to explain to Mopar/Charger Purists that we did NOT cut the top off.  The previous owner did, because the roof was in bad condition.  Plus, he wanted to experiment.  He did put subframes and "toughed it out" after cutting the roof off.  It's a clean cut, and he replaced the back area with black vinyl.  I was about 19 at the time I bought it, so it was a fun car.  We drove it around for a while, locally, and it was a smooth driving car.  Lots of people try to buy it off of us for $5,000 at the time.  We didn't want to use it as a parts car, because it was such a smooth AND fun ride.  So, it's on our list of projects.  I've had it for years now, but I had to put it on the back burner because of health issues that arose, and then I had another project my dad and I were working on (Panther Pink 1970 Challenger).  We do plan to start working on it, perhaps at the beginning of next year.  So, it will be another father/daughter project.  It still cranks up and moves around, we don't let it sit.  It's got a tough sounding 318 in it, with a strong cam, not sure the details on the kind of cam it has.  The quarter panels are shot (it was already like that when we bought it).  Those will  need to be replaced.  We plan to make it look like the concept that came out back then.  Those are the plans. 

I named the car Moody Blue.

Hello,

The picture of the topless Charger painted in half 60's psychedelic print, and faded blue, is the same car.  It was painted like that by the previous owner before he decided to go completely blue (krylon spray paint) with white on the hood inserts.  That picture is his.

When I got the car, it was/is the way it's pictured with my other Charger.  Yes, it has some damage on the hood.  Luckily, it came with an extra clean/straight hood.  However, the grille is PERFECT.  Doesn't even have that ding in the middle of the split grille that is typical on other Chargers (including my other ones).

The picture with the windows rolled up, was one of the pictures that the previous owner had posted on the ebay listing.

Here's one for you.  I would LOVE to know whatever happened to this car!  It's a '70 Charger, plum crazy purple, white interior... and believe it or not, the ragtop is NOT functional.  They opened up the frame, welding it together so it wouldn't function and made it a removeable ragtop.  They never told what it came off of but I'd bet it was a Coronet frame.  I don't remember if the car was an RT, 500, or a plain jane version... but it did have a big block.  These pictures were taken in the spring of 1997 in Jackson, Mississippi and that was the last time I ever saw the car.  It may still be here somewhere, but who knows.

Isn't that the car from the movie "Corkie"?  Aside from that I have to say that with the lone exception of the topless Charger that Dodge made themselves, I have yet to see a convertible Charger that didn't leave me cold.

There was a convertible Charger featured in Mopar Muscle last year.  It was said to have been a concept from Chrysler and had a functional top made from a Caddy I believe?  I will try to look up that issue.  There may be some contact info, so you could get some pics from the owner.

That would be the green 1968 Charger convertible that was being built by the original designer of the '68 Charger, Richard Sias.
