Well, this is it, my first posting on this site. So be gentle. After many years of talking about getting a project car, I am a proud father of a slightly used (well maybe abused) 1966 Charger, sitting in a barn covered with bird crap. Previous owner dropped a 1973 440 in it and that's as far as it got. The power steering is set up is not the right one by the way it sit so low and the brackets are welded on the pump itself, so basically the whole front part of the engine will need to be setup properly. I will be ordering the proper water pump (drivers' side outlet) and alternator brackets, and all the pullies. So, question is what kind of power steering pump and brackets should go in this unit. Car will be a driver, so I hope to get it going soon. :shruggy:
P.S. Hi Ron, how about that contract? :brickwall:

Hey Denis....good to see ya here !  :2thumbs:

I've seen your car a few times (with the 318 poly when Gerry owned it) and as you know donated a few parts (starter/rad) to get it moving  forward with the 440 install. How are all of the other pullies....everything line up ?

Several vendors will have the brackets you need as well as the correct pump. I'm sure some of the 66-67 guys will chime in with recommendations for you.

Yep, glad to finally have that contract settled....5 years was waaaay too long !!!  :faint:

Ps. Denis, not sure what p/s pump you have...saginaw or federal....do you know ? Here's a link for BB saginaw p/s brackets : http://bouchillonperformance.com/BPEpsb.asp

I would get the same type of pump that originally came on your car. It will make buying a pressure hose easier since the hose connects to the frontside on the Federal and to the backside on the Saginaw.   :Twocents:

P.S. I think there is also another style (Thompson) similar to the Federal only slightly bigger and the return is larger diameter and located up top.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

The Thompson pump has a 5/8" return line. The steering box also has a 5/8" return fitting. Most later pumps and boxes have 3/8" fitting. If you use the Thompson pump you will have to change it.The Thompson was real common in the early 60's.not sure of the year of change over.

Oh, and welcome to the site.  It's nice to see another fastback owner around.

Thanks for the quick replies. Car originally came with the 318 poly, but original p/s pump is gone, the one that was attached to the 440 came from another unknown unit, so that's my dilemma, which one do I get. 440 Source has all the necessary brackets and pullies to finish it up, but the only pump they have is the saginaw. This one should do? I am not to concerned with total originality. Oh, and Ron, since I have access to the front of the motor, would it be a good idea to put a new h/v oil pump. Just wondering.

Denis, look at the pic i posted and try to identify which pump you have on your car. Hopefully it's a Saginaw because with 440 source having the pump and brackets available for a reasonable price you won't have to swap out the hoses. The hoses aren't that expensive but if they're still in descent shape there's no point. A saginaw will work fine on your car  :2thumbs:

As for the oil pump ; as long as the oil pressure is descent don't worry about it for now. ;)

Thanks Ron, will contact 440 Source next week and order my stuff. As far as the oil pressure goes, unknown, gauges don't work. That will be my next project (or someone else that has tackled these dashes before). I'll probably put in an aftermarket unit for now (oil, temp, volt).
