sorry to hear that Chargerboy,..

The newspaper where I used to work (and took a buyout from last yr.) is laying off 125 as of yet unnamed folks anyday... I hear the morale there is terrible...

work part time as on-air persoanlity in small, non-chain owned radio station...sign was just posted on employee bulletin board...

"The Beatings will Continue until Morale Improves."

well, that's better than a raise, anyway. :eek2:

people that have been working at the plant say that it happens pretty much every 4 years before elections...hopefully it doesnt last long. Im still weighing out all of my options, just deciding what would be best thing to do.

The auto repair business is up and down( I am a tech at a Dodge delership) You never know what you will make from week to week, very hard to plan for trips or home inprovement. Most people dont know that most all delership techs work on 100% commission  that meens if you are not working on a car you are not making money + warranty work pays 1/2 want costumer pay will. There has been some days i have spent nine hours at work and left with only making $10.00 that day :brickwall:  Jay.

I was building houses up to three years ago. I saw the handwriting on the wall way back then as far as the housing slow down. Two years ago I took a job as a job superintendent for a commercial real estate developer. So buried with work I couldn't even make Carlisle this year :RantExplode:
I feel fortunate. A lot of guys I know keep building spec houses thinking the housing market would never fade. Two friends that use to work for me that went out on their own went out of business this year.

I'm a project manager for a high end swimming pool builder on long island.  We are not slow at all. We cater the super wealthy and I guess they don't feel the pinch.

also fortunate is that no matter how good people are at the other trades (electricians, plumbers, builders, mechanics, etc...) I have yet to meet one ever who could find his ass with both hands when it comes to even the simplest parts of maintianing a pool. It seems to evade everyone so I have job security for a long time. (we build pools that cannot be serviced by the homeowner, multiple pumps, computer controls, etc..)

My dad never has problems keeping our pool maintained? We never cover it in the winter either. :nana: "Just through some dat extra bleach in there!"
