column shifter + headers= no shift

I am putting headers on a 71 satellite wagon. it has a 383. The header on the driverside will not allow the stock column shift to work, I have tried to flip the linkage upside down, but that wont work. I would really like to keep the stock shifter. What are my options?

A guy near me made a longer & wider  bracket for his column shift 383 71 Super Bee. It hangs down lower and clears the headers, no ground clearance problems either. If I see the car at a show I will try to get a photo of the bracket and post it here.
