I still remember back in the late 80's of going to a "Caldors" now closed, and this guy had a orange SB in the lot and these old ladies pulled in next to it and opened their door right into the SB door and walked towards the store.  I walked over and commented on how they hit the door and they yelled at me and I yelled at them, and it was ugly. :-\  Not a problem today as people don't drive them to stores anymore and leave them in the lots.  But there was a time....

MOPARHOUND!

Went to college at Pittsburg State for 4 years in the 80's, graduating in '89.  Frontenac, KS borders Pittsburg on the north side.  A guy had several sought after e-bodies and wing cars then, but tracking him down proved to be highly unusual.  All I have to say about that.  :scratchchin:

Bates Salvage was in full operation then, had several mopar muscle cars.  Could have had a pair of complete 68-69 Super Bees for $1000.00 total.  Poor college student then, with no way to get them 100 miles to the storage shed at the time.  Spent more than my share of Friday and Saturday nights in Frontenac, it had a popular college hangout in those days.

Ironically, in 2002 I returned to Frontenac and bought the white 71 Charger R/T in my avatar from John Bates, who since moved south of Pittsburg, KS.  (By the way, he has now finished restoring the purple 71 Charger Super Bee with Six Pack, used the money from my white 71 Charger R/T to finish it, his Bee is for sale $25,000.00).  John's nephew can tell you some gut-wrenching stories of some of the cars that got crushed.

I have emailed Junior Johnston about interior prices once in the past, don't think I've met him, though I try to go to Mokan's All Mopar Show each year between Pittsburg and Joplin, MO.  Junior has a long ongoing thread on MoKan Dragway's website about interior work, business hours, etc.

Well stories are out there.  These is supposed to be a HEMI daytona here in ND in a Barn that was in a bad accident.  I know the gentleman who has the motor and have seen the motor.  In Fact have a pic of it.  I just did not write down the #.

Apparently the guy is a bit on the eccentric side and does not often let anyone see the car.  it was apparently hit pretty hard.

DS, was given the # and apparently the number does fall in the shipping list from what I was told.

Maybe someday this car will see the light of day again.... or continue to sit in the shed...... :shruggy:

they probably don't have any more $ (or resources) then you do wing... so, should you happen to (be so lucky) find a car, say a decent '69 R/T SE Charger project for let's say 5 Grand,.. then it sits outside your barn for several years while you collect the 20-30 K to restore it... or turn it into a DAYTONA clone,.. everyone can get mad and throw stones at you and call you "those kind of people".

BTW:
finding that elusive muscle out in farmer Joe's south fourty just got a whole lot easyier...

Brock-  That almost sounds like the one I bought two years ago off of ebay.  It was a nice 1969 RT/SE at one time, but the second owner decided to take it apart for a restoration back in 1982-3.  He lost the VIN tag by accident while selling some of the additional parts he had, so the car sat out back for a long time while he contemplated what to do next.  All the people who tried to buy it were shot down (which ticked them off), as he did not really want to get rid of a real Charger RT/SE (shell) that he thought he might be able to bring back.  He finally gave up on it and listed it on ebay to help "clean up" his property, but he left the fender tag decoding to the buyer rather than using it to promote the car in the listing.  At least he gave everyone a fair chance to buy the car rather than letting it rot to the ground where it was.  That one now has a warm, safe place to rest until the resto work begins......

I thought I would share this story with you guys about a car I found in 05.
You may find it interesting, I know I did, and the end of the story will shock you if it happened the way we were told it did.
I am sure we all look for the diamond in the rough, it could be that we get a lead on a car that is behind a house and all we can think about is "Can it be a Hemi Cuda or an A12 that is all original just sitting there". We hear these stories and our imagination takes over, what is it, how am I going to buy it, what am I going to do if there is more then 1 car sitting there, how am I going to get it home and the worst thought, How do I tell my wife I need to buy these cars.
I know you all have been there and know just what I am saying, it is a sickness that we have, it is like a disease with no cure and we don't care what we have just let us find 1 car, only 1 will make it all right. Just to let you know, 1 is not the cure, I needed to fine more and more.
I have found my share of cars over the years, 6 packs, GTX's, Charger R/T's, Challenger R/T's and so on but the holy grail was never found.... Until I thought I did 3 yrs ago.

I am always driving around and looking left and right at every car I see parked or sitting on blocks, covered with a tarp or grouped with a bunch of other sitting cars. One day at lunch time I am looking as usual and I spot a Satellite sitting within a group of other cars.
I figure OK, there are no markings on the back end of the car I know here in Arizona that it is safe to say that this should be fairly rust free so I decided to stop in and ask about it.
The place in question is a Mechanics Garage that is not open for business much, gate was closed, quite a few very old cars from the 30-40's sitting in the back and some newer cars smashed with hoods opened on the right side of his lot, this is where the Satellite is in the middle of. I see this old man open the door to walk to another door and I ask him if I can look at the cars and if any are for sale. He said in a real grumpy voice, OK but don't touch anything. Well I went right for the Satellite and in the first picture is what I saw, I was confused for a matter of 5 seconds and then it hit me, can it really be what I think it is. As I walked up closer to the car I spotted the A pillar shields and the holes on the fender tops and I almost crapped my pants. I then walked to the back of the car and looked for the trim at the bottom of the window and then I saw the holes for the wing.
I had a camera with me and I began to take some pictures of this bird, I looked at this car up and down and it was what it was. I went in to talk to the old man about the car and I asked him if it was for sale, he said it was and make him an offer. I asked if he had the missing parts with out mentioning the nose and wing and he said the nose and wing is tucked away and safe. I made him an offer and I can see it in his eyes that 10k was not good enough. I mentioned to him I need to check and see if I can move some money around and if that was possible I can then offer 20k for the car.
He told me that I would need to come back in a week and he would give me an answer.
I felt that it still was not enough and I didn't have anymore to offer just yet so I left.
I talked it over with a friend and we decided to go 15 each for a total of 30k so we went back the following week. In the meantime I verified the car was real and the vin supported the find. I had just had 2 cars featured in the Rare finds in Mopar Muscle and the editor and I had been communicating by email and was waiting for the story of this big find I had but not knowing what it could be. Well I went back the old man and to offer him the 30k but he was not there so we left I kept going there and the gate was always closed and locked, week after week. A month went by and when I went there I was in shock, all the cars were gone. I went nuts trying to find out what had happened.
I finally found out the old man passed away and the wife sold all the cars to the scrap yard and had them crushed...... I could not believe what I had heard.......
Enjoy the pictures, these are all I have and YES, they are still out there, all you need to do is look out past your nose......
