The kid was asked to be on another team, the team that won it last year and he refused.

I coached 8 years from t-ball all the way to babe ruth. I can tell you that most every year, there ends up being a team that is loaded. The team always seems to be somehow connected to league management and predestined to win.

This kid's team was 8-0.  The team that he refused to play for is coached by a guy who is connected to league management.

Connect the dots.

Hmmmm... If his pitches are too unsafe, what was the coach of the defending team going to do with him if he had accepted the invitation to join that team?
Make him water boy?

Connect the dots, indeed.

definately a stroke job with a jerk finish....however, that kid's parents should be pushing for him to get into the league with older kids.  Facing older better hitters would make him an even better pitcher.  If he's some sort of protege, then maybe he makes it to the professional level.  facing better hitters now instead of being the big fish in the small pond will serve him well down the road.

I agree with Jamey, it's total BS, and I also agree with dkn, but what is the next level and 40 mph might be too slow depending on the age bracket of the next league.  There are some 12yo's that throw 65+ mph.  I was stunned when I watched the LLWS this year.  Some serious talent coming up these days.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

So, they ban the kid because "his pitching is too intimidating" instead of teaching the opposing kids how to hit "intimidating" pitches.

Same mentality that brought about T-ball; the kid can't hit a pitched ball and it hurts his self esteem so let him smack it off of a stationary tee. They're raising another generation of whimps.  ::)
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

what the hell happened to this country?  competition and the reality of life are what shaped this great nation.   It's what allowed us to defeat the Nazis and become the most powerful country the world has ever known.  It's because we had the desire to be the best.  now it seems that being the best is either discouraged, like in this case...or being the best has become a reason to get away with everything, such as professional athletes.

It's great and all that we all have our "rights" now and we all have lawyers on speed dial...but I miss the days when everyone accepted what went on and shut the F up about it. I know that during the beginning and middle of the 20th century, there were some dark and terrible things that were done under assumption that we could trust the gov't and take their word at face value, and I know peoples rights got violated pretty regularly,  but is what we have gained worth the price we are paying now?  bunch of excuse makers running around with all of the power...I just don't get it.  If I told my old man that I was too intimidated to face some phenom in my little league, He would have told me to grow a sack and get my ass out there and take a swing and stop geing a sissy.  I know, I know...diverging from the original topic, but the fact that it's in the news is a real sad commentary on how far we have sunk.  I guess I was raised a certain way, right or wrong, and I'm damn glad that Im one of the guys who lives a relatively unremarkable life punctuated by showing up on time to work every day, sick or not. sure I'll never get rich, but I sleep like a baby at night.

reminds me of a short story I read once where the monolithic gov't of the future levels the playing field by putting limiting devices on people who excel.  headphones of white noise on those who are too smart. trusses and such on those who are too physically gifted.  at some point, 2 of these phenoms shed their garb and take over a newscast.  they eventually get shot by the futurecops, but not before they show all the peeps what it's like.

The article says "developmental league", and then says "against older players, or in another league".  Perhaps this is a ringer player that needs to be in a "competitive league"?

Around here, there are competitive basketball leagues for the athletic kid's, and then the for fun leagues where scoring is not kept, and everyone is given equal playing time.

Also around here, they play "D" league Men's slow pitch softball, the league that the once a week players/beer drinkers play in for fun, and then they have "C" or higher leagues for the guys wanting to play competitively.

Years ago, a running back in a local Pee Wee football league was limited to 1 carry per quarter.  The kid's name was Darren Sproles, he went on to become a Heisman Trophy candidate at Kansas State, and last I knew was returning punts/kickoffs for the San Diego Chargers.
