C'mon guys....add your vote to help make NJSTEVE's 70 Charger R/T the Hemmings Musclecar of the year. Don't let those Ford and GM cars win.

Thank you for your votes guys! It is pretty cool to be considered for the Musclecar of the Year. I must admit that there are some other neat cars in contention, as well.

I celebrated the nomination by buying 10 gallons of 100 octane leaded aircraft fuel and throwing it in the tank.

R/T SE Hemi? I thought you couldnt get the SE with a Hemi? :shruggy:

1969chargerrtse

His article in hemmings explains how you could.

""In 1969, there was some prohibition at Chrysler against ordering the R/T SE with the Hemi," Segal said. "There was an actual asterisk on the order sheet in 1969. Why, I don't know; Chrysler would just do dumb things like that back then. But the 1970 order sheet had no asterisk, so they lifted the ban, but they didn't seem to advertise it or tell anybody," Segal said. "

That's a great story, Steve. It was very nice (and smart) of that guy to send you all the paperwork on your car. Very thoughtful. I wish I could get my hands on 1/20th of the documentation you have.

Got mine in, there is some good competition there but your Charger does truly deserve the win Steve.

Thanks. The Ehnats, both the father and son, are great people. The son was the one who found the entire file and just sent it to me out of the blue. Can you imagine what someone today would try to make you pay for gold like that? The father was one of the original mechanics at Suburban Dodge who worked on the car when it was new. He said the original owner blew the clutch the second day they had the car and he had to do the warranty work on it. I actually had the father fill in my yellow antifreeze decal on the radiator support a few years back. I even photographed him doing it. How is that for originality? - having the Day 1, original mechanic redo your dealer prep decal!

Every time I go to a show, the two of them always seem to pop up like a genie in a bottle. I cant count how many times I have been parked somewhere, opened the trunk and then turn around and they are standing there. (que the Twilight Zone theme now)
If you dont believe me, here is a photo at the 2004 Chryslers at Carlisle. I had just set up my display and opened the trunk to get my camera to take a photo and I turned around and there they were:

I still keep in touch with both of the Ehnats since we live about 25 miles apart. This is something John Ehnat found at the dealership last year - the original 1970 rear bumper dealer sticker. It was on the underside of an aluminum step ladder! He photographed it and sent me the picture and I had the decal reproduced by ECS Automotive. (ECS now uses this original pattern to remake other dealers stickers as well if you want them to).

and here is how the finished decal looks on the car:

And in case you guys doubt my claims as to beating on the car, Here is a shot from the stock musclecar drags held at Englishtown a year and a half ago:

Yes, it was a Buick. Yes, it had a Stage 1. Yes, I beat him  ;D

As far as voting several times, they usually check the IP addresses of the votes for duplicates and sometimes disqualify them if they're "spamming" the votes. Hopefully they'll just drop it down to 1 vote but just so you guys know...

How could any self respecting Charger owner not vote for a car like this??  :drool5:

Yup, she's been around over the years.  :yesnod:

The crazy thing is that the first time it appeared in a magazine was the September 1990 issue of MuscleCar Review. That was the magazine that John Ehnat, the young man at Suburban Dodge was reading during his lunch break in August 1990, when he and his co-worker were asked to throw out all the old dealer files. They dumped them out into the dumpster and guess what file landed on top?...my Charger's file. John then hunted down my address and sent it to me out of the blue. How's that for a Twilight Zone episode?

Just got my Oct Hemmings Muscle car mag.  It did a nice spread on old and new Challengers on the cover.  Inside are those annoying cards to reorder.  What picture of a car did they put on the card to excite you?  Steve's 70 Hemi charger.

Since when did our '69 Pontiac owners become so jaded and jealous of the '70 Charger?  It seems like a consistent attack lately. Don't hate fellas, your cars look nice...from the back.  :icon_smile_wink:

Can't we all just get along  :bawling:

However I did notice that their avitars are side views. Hmmmmm  :scratchchin:

You have to admit it though, the 69 grille really sets off the rebel flag and 01 numbers really well and the center section is perfect for cutting through the wind for those big jumps. (sorry, couldn't help myself )

1969chargerrtse

And the change of direction for the thread begins.  Didn't we do a vote on the favorite year?  If I remember correct if it wasn't for some fake voting making 68 look more favorable than 69, 69 won ( just kidding )?  As for the grille issue of 69,  doesn't the fact that the 70 grille looks like the mouth of a blue whale bother you?  :hah: :nana:  I crack me up. :smilielol:  No?  Chill baby, I love all 3 years.   :drool5:

Too bad the beauty of the 69 grill had to be marred by the add on crash bar...  not like the 70 with that built in ugly mofo crashbar... ie mean bumper  :icon_smile_big:

And it served a good purpose...  winningest short track car for 70 nascar season!!!   That built in pushbar really helped trading paint!
