Holley VS Edelbrock intake???

What is the difference between the Holley street dominator and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake?

I have the SD intake and it works good but everyone keeps telling me that I have to get the RPM intake instead of the SD.

Why is that? How many horsepowers will I gain?

On a mild build there's not much difference between them.....the RPM dual plane will make more torque down low but will give up some hp up top if your engine has enough cam and cylinder head flow to pull over 6000 rpm.

If i allready had a Street Dominator i would not go out and buy a Performer Rpm.

I'd sell you mine but then I'd most likely end up having to go back to an Edelbrock.

The Edelbrock RPM intake cost around 400 dollars here in Norway, so im not gonna get it if it will stay the same HP.

Yep, i'm sure there's not enough difference to justify spending $400 on a manifold for no improvement. It might make slightly more torque down low but the average 2000-6000 HP/TQ power numbers will be near identical. The money is better spent elsewhere, inmo.

Hi - just a quick tagalong question on to this post -

Granting that the SD and the Edelbrock Performer RPM are essentially the same performance - are both a worthwhile upgrade over the stock 69 440 intake?

I have both. I run a thermoquad on the SD. and a Edelbrock eps 800 on the RPM intake. RPM feels a little stronger of the line. SD pulls harder 5000rpm+. Part of the low end difference is probably the carb.

SD. fits under the hood better. Does not need kickdown linkage mods.

If I had bought the SD first and had to pay $400 for the RPM I would not switch. I got both of mine at swap meets, made an offer and  then suggested to the guy that cash was alot lighter to carry home. He agreed.

Is the concensus that the 200 bucks for an Edlebrock Performer RPM intake over a 69 stock 440 hp manifold is money well spent?  I have a Carter 650 carb now but plan on increasing that size soon.  Car is generally stock now - 10.5-1 pistons, fairly mild cam, 3.23 rear end, stock exhaust manifold, etc. 

I intend to do a new msd/mallory ignition box as well.

You might also think about increasing the size of the new carb. A 650 on a 383 is a bit tight in my opinion.

Yep the 650 carb is waay too small...especially on a 440 using a dual plane intake manifold. 

The factory HP intake manifolds of that era are fairly descent so depending on the cam and cylinder head flow there might not be huge gains going with the RPM intake manifold. 

The high rise RPM also requires modification to the kickdown & throttle linkage as well as a drop base aircleaner assembly to clear the stock hood. It works great....in the right application, but in your case it's probably not worth the hassle. 

Spend the money elsewhere....

The CH4B is the premiere replacement manifold....looks stock yet has killer power potential with the right parts. Edelbrock needs to re-issue these manifolds....much like Holley did with the Street Dominator.

I have decided to get a new intake now and I still havent made up my mind.

The rpm wont fit so what else should I get. All of friends tells me to get a dual plane intake.

Which one should I get???

The Performer is just an aluminum version of the factory one.  If the RPM won't fit, the other two touted in this thread are both great-CH4B or Street Dominator.

I just bought the EDELBROCK CH4B intake,

Do I need any linkage or anything? I have a Street Dominator now with a Holley carb.


Can`t wait to put it on. Hopefully make some more POWER
