Rear End Question for my 1972 Plymouth Duster

Ive got a 72 Plymouth Duster which currently has a 7.25 rear end with a 4 inch pattern.  Im eventually dropping a mild 360 in the car and wanted a strong enough rear end and 4.5 inch bolt pattern.  My question is, I went to a junkyard that had some C Bodies with some rear ends.. but they were to wide.  But they had about 5 mid 80's New Yorkers and Diplomats with some 8.25 rear ends.  Would one of those rear ends fit under my Duster?  I noticed they were a couple inches longer than my dusters rear end, also would the shock mounts be different?  I can get them cheap so I was just gonna come on here to check and see if I need to go down that route..  Im having a hard time finding any A bodies at the moment.

In truth you can make anything fit, and then get wheels with any backspacing you require as long as its not too ridiculous looking for you

Dont waste youre time and money. You should be able to find an A-body 8-1/4 cheap with the large pattern to start your transformation. Keep looking.

I understand what you are going through.  I would reccomend being patient when looking for your 8-1/4.  A-bodies can tend to be difficult to find rear ends for, with so many of them having the old /6 in them.  As previously posted those other ones will work with a little tweaking.  If it was me.. :Twocents: I would take my time to find an A body rear.  There should be some A Bodies in your area that had a small V-8 with that combo in it....

what about puting a 1968-70 B-body rear in it and just move the spring perches
