The above picture is the day after I bought it. ROUGH!!! An old dude sold it to me from behind his barn for $600 and thought it was to good to pass up...They were gonna have it crushed  :o

It's a 1970 charger 500SE. I think it's an F8 green. Black vinyl top,bucket seat console car of course all that stuff was long gone including the instrument cluster... :-\

Nice man. What are your plans? Gonna change over the front clip or just leave it a '70? What about the interior are you gonna go all out with the roll cage etc?

I saw grindhouse in theaters and I loved both movies. I love Tarantino's movies and Death Proof was great. I not gonna lie...the Nova was pretty bad ass too. They're also pretty cheap compared to chargers.

Hi, Thanks for checking it out!

The car will retain the '70 clip and will feature as much of the movie car details as possible. The interior will feature a rollcage,correct steering wheel and b&m shifter along with the simpson 5 points that I already have. My plans will be to actually get it finished  :rofl: It will however feature shaved drip rails and marker lights to.

The cars used in the movie that were not '69's were made to look like '69. One the transporation guys of the film I talked to said they did indeed use 68/9 and 1970 cars.

Im doing away the aluminum tail panel piece as well. I sold it to a guy wanting it for his r/t  :2thumbs: This car will appear identical from the rear because Im going with the '68 rear valance just as the film car used. I also scored the '69 charger taillight bezels for $50 so  :o :icon_smile_big: YAY!!

Stay tuned it's about to get intresting. Ive been hard at it for over a year now and am nowhere near done. Budget comes to mind here  :icon_smile_big:

The novas were pretty sweet in that film to  :2thumbs:

I poop on most of the movie itself. 

But all three cars (Nova, Chally, and Charger) were classics.

Unfortunately that rollcage would never be safe on a street cruiser just because of the lack of padding. 


If I was doing a replica, I'd entirely custom-make the cage and leave a bunch of the bars removable. 

I'd sand all the metal tubing to a decent sorta-shiny 400 grit or something, and then clearcoat the whole thing like that.  It would look like fresh bare metal that way.  (Yeah, silver metallic paint would be very tempting because it would be so easy.  But clearcoated bare steel just looks better IMHO.  It would keep that almost-chromed look that the cage had in the movie.)

There was rust in the drivers side front rail but everything else wasnt "to bad"  :-\

Here's one of our formed panels. Each side before the rear wheels needed a patch so we made a couple of pieces and welded them in. This was in the first stages it's looking pretty decent now. You know the deal grind,form,cut,cuss and fabricate a little more  :popcrn:







Not done but...getting there! We cut this piece from another tail panel that was rough and welded it in.

If only I was in Kansas we would talk! I dont mind the '70 clip at all. I just hate the fact they make nothing for them. Important stuff like front valances!

The door that was on the car when I got it..being replaced by a door I got for $40 off of a destroyed '68 charger  :-\

Repaired rail area :the part that held the battery and the flat part under it was rusted out. Battery is going in the trunk.

Thanks!! I took autobody in high school and am far from a professional body man but this car will so look so much better than what I started with it will be unreal. I have had help from a couple of friends especially with some panel fab.  This never will be a show piece but a car intended to be driven hard and often  :2thumbs:

Im planning a 408 stroker small block as of now with a beefed up 904 w/ a mild converter.

I want the huge power in the smaller package  :icon_smile_big: You can always tell em it's a 318  :eyes: :poke:

The key to decent body work is time which it takes alot of. I like to sand my filler at an angle so that it blends with the quarter then I get finer and finer with the sandpaper. Then the evercoat glazing putty is used (get from eastwood). This stuff isnt cheap but it will make a filled spot smooth as glass, especially if you start wet sanding it!
