When still in the vehicle.  How do I know a 383 from a 400.  Or a 361???  I know what a 440 looks like, just have to look at the distributor........

thanks.  Need to know for when  I go shopping.

Also, speaking of 4 speeds.  I'm told there was a unit that was classified as a 3 speed with an overdrive (manual tranny) this one is for a truck.  Is it still worthy???

The B engines (361 383 400) will have the cid stamped on a machined pad on the front of the block just under the right cylinder head.  On the RB's (413 426 440) it will be stamped on a machined pad just to the right of the distributor on the top of the block.

Yes, sorry, I did one one correctly and one as though you were standing in front looking at it.  Thanks RD.
