so the Charger ran and drove OK. they 've delivered the car, drained the gas tank (for shippig over seas) and 2 months later the car arrives finally.
I went over to the warehouse to check out the car and tried to start it. It turns over but no start. The guy put some gas into the carb, jump started the car... nothing. He replied  '' it must be an ignition problem ''
1 Week later I picked her up, tried the same procedure: nothing, only turns over, no start. Hauled it home, gave her a good wash and then start to check the mechanical part.

Fuel test: removed fuel line from carb to pump, 3 drops of gas in the fuel filter. When pushing the pedal no gas squirting into the carb. Tried it again with some gas directly into the carb, no result.

ignition test: I borrowed a 'one you know it works' coil, hooked it up, tried again, nothing. With a Volt meter tested that both terminals read 6V. On both coils. So I assume my coil is still OK.

So what you suggest to look for as I am really desperate to hear the car running.
Thanks for you help!

Scott pointed out that the sending unit filter could be clogged. I just removed the unit and noticed that no gas was comming out of the unit nor out of the tube departing from the outlet. So I can suspect a bad gas pump but still, the car should be running when poring some gas in the carb, right?
Thanks

You could try hooking up a timing light to the #1 wire and cranking the engine. You should see your timing light flashing. That will tell you if your getting spark or not. I wasn't aware that you had tried just pouring fuel directly into the carb. If it won't even fire at all with fuel down the carb its gotta be spark related.

if it were me i would go through all the electrics ... make sure you have a spark ...check every thing ... who knows what the customs in your country got up to , maybe even the guys on the boat when  it come over on  :scratchchin:   ..... sock filter looks dirty any way ,  might as well clean it  ..or fit a new one while the senders out , or leave it off & put a in line filter between the carb & pump .  take all the plugs out & inspect them also ............. :popcrn:

Thanks for your advise!
So I will install a new gas pump, just to make sure the fuel delivery is OK.
Together with a filter between tank/pump and pump/carb I will be on the safe side.
So far the fuel issue.

About the ignition, I tested with the coil wire against metal and a tiny spark shows when cranking the engine. Should be a fat spark, no?
The rotor cap and rotor look clean, nothing burned.

the problem is that I still don't have a manual so gotta go search the net for the right firing order.
I started with this car taking everything for granted.
Better wake up and deal with it

does this cause no spark at the coil wire?
I checked the points and they seem te be fine. I even get spark at the coil wire whit the distributor cap off and open/close the points.

maybe condenser is gone, out of range, not storaging the power to get the enough spark ? :shruggy:

so, I removed the engine harness to go through it. I found 4 small blemishes on 2 wires: one that runs to coil (blue) and one that runs to temp gauge send unit. both were allready taped of.
Also the IGN side of the alternator regulator was badly corroded.

Everything else seems fine.
Thanks

chgr500

Just a thought...if you have a radio noise suppressor on the coil they can go short to ground and allow some current to still flow to the points...it will appear as a weak spark at the points and WILL NOT START...my car had the same symptons you first described...cost me a tow home to find out

Nacho-RT74

Honestly since you already removed the harness, IMHO go for the ECU upgrade once

aaand chrgr500 got a point too

did you try hot wiring the coil ?

ok... if we were HOT WIRING the coil first, probably we would find earlier the fail was some lack of power somewhere for some reason, like rust or dust...

GREAT WAS SO SIMPLY!!!!

If you want to know what are the main wires on ignition system, they are the blue wire and the brown wire. as far you keep them in perfect condition, you'll get fire on engine ;)

and for charging system, same blue wire, then green wire from regulator and the black wire output from alt sutd ;)
