Well now, aren't we optimistic?

Optimistic? More like insane. Do you think a Daytona is worth $70k? Ok, let's say it's not the '69 version with the wing. Ok, now let's say it's not the brand new version that's got $35k worth of add ons.

People get this sick idea that they can put unrealistic, way out there prices on sites like Hemmings and someone will actually buy it.  I think it will be there for a while.  Not sure if "optimistic " is the word I would use.  :icon_smile_wink:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

$7K would be optimistic for an '85.

The extra 0 represents his IQ.

Black Betty:  1969 Charger R/T - X9 440 six pack, TKO600 5 speed, 3.73 Dana 60.
Sinnamon:  1969 Charger R/T - T5 440, 727, 3.23 8 3/4 high school sweetheart.

My bet is his wife said sell it so he said ok and then he put the high price on it.

Here's what I think happened.

Someone, not a car enthusiast though, owns an '84 Daytona. A coworker of theirs, another non-car enthusiast, channel surfs past a Barrett Jackson auction during a '69 Daytona auction. They see what is sells for, is totally shocked, & suddenly remembers that a coworker has "THE EXACT SAME CAR" & gets excited. When they get to work on Monday, they can't even wait until they finish their morning coffee to tell the person with the Daytona about what it's worth.

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Hey Dan, did you watch any TV over the weekend?"

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "No, Steve, I didn't watch TV at all, I had to practice the tuba for the oompa concert."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Oh, I can't wait to hear that show, don't forget to remind me when you go. Anyway, I watched the Bartles & James Wine auction where they sell classic cars."

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner: "Oh yeah, I saw that once at a friends house. Some of those old junkers go for some big money."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Well, you're never gonna guess what sold on there for big bucks."

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "Hmm, a '57 Chevy?"

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "A what?"

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "A '57 Chevy, it's the biggest classic ever made."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Oh that, no, I saw a car EXACTLY LIKE YOUR CAR!"

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "Really? A 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, with 82,000 Miles, a repaint of factory colors 5 years ago, updated air, new clutch, tires & brakes less than 3 thousand miles, non factory sun roof, all original parts no rust stored inside no winter driving, purchased in 1985 from the same original dealer that isn't driven every day & has everything that works?"

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Yup!"

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "Wow, I'd have never guessed some nut would pay that kind of money for an old car."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "You should sell yours at the Bartle & James Wine auction too."

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "Nah, you have to pay a lot to sell it there, I know a classic car website that the grease monkey guy in the mail room looks at on his lunch hour called Hemmings."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Cool, you should list it there & when you sell it you can get that new tuba you told me about."

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "I will as soon as I get home & take some pictures that don't really show the car."

Non enthusiast Barrett Jackson witness:  "Good luck!"

Non enthusiast '84 Daytona owner:  "Thanks........Gold plated tuba, here I come!"

Wow, and here all this time I thought that the cars I was looking for were expensive. Little did I know that a car that was mass produced, and done 25 years later was worth the same amount. Maybe I should save my  :Twocents: :Twocents: :Twocents: and get one of these super rare/expensive 84 Daytona's instead of holding out hope of ever having a 69.

And to think that I sold 3 of the 1993 IROC R/T Daytona's in the past all for less than $7,500 a piece. Not to mention the 1990 Daytona SE I sold for $10 to my neighbor who still drives it back and forth to work, now with 450,000 miles on it.

I'll never understand these hoping-for-a-mistaken-buyer kind of auctions.

People just aren't gonna do that when you're talking about $70,000 for a 1980s Dodge.
