I found this car a while ago.  I have been doing research for a while and I have a few questions about the production of the rallye.  My sheet shows 105 hardtops and 208 440 powered hardtops.  I thought you could only get the 440 in rallye or se cars.  Could you order the 440 in anything that year or are the production numbers wrong?

Here are some pics.  It is a u code rallye.  It has been sitting since 1982.  It is a lynch road car and does not have the a57 on the trim tag, but it does have the v21 code.  I still have several more places to look for the broadcast sheet.

I have owned a 74 440 Rallye since 1987, so I've collected some info on them. Depending on what source you want to believe in, there were either 213 or 215 440 Rallye cars made in 1974. All of them are 727 cars. Counting yours, in the last 21 years, I have run across about 15 of them. Yours is the second red one I've seen, and only the 3rd or 4th one with the performance hood paint option.

nice find - i think it is a rare car - love the 73 and 74 chargers - that is worth some good money - good luck in restoring it - any interior pictures of car??

Thanks guys.  I knew the numbers that I have do not make any sense. So all the 440 cars were rallyes in this body style?  The rallye base engine was the 318 right?  If 215 were 440's that means that the 105 production must be way off if you include all of the other rallyes produced with other engines.

The car will be restored.  It had been sitting in that spot since 1982.  Mice got inside and pretty much destroyed the seat covers.  The body is not rusted though.  The car was not leaking so the floor and trunk pans are in good shape.  Also it was in the shade so the dash pad, and door panels are in perfect shape.  The guy I bought the car from got the car in 1978 and the original block had been replaced way back then.  He had a 440 to go in the car though.  I have been looking for a good third gen worth restoring for a while, and I think this is it.

i think some 440's were SE and 440 SE Brougham versions  - there were no 440's with 4 speeds for 73 or 74 chargers.

This may help. The 440 was available with Rallye Package only in coupes and hard tops. It was also available with the SE model.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

that car is incredibly good shape for sitting so long, any pictures of the interior?  congrats and car looks awesome considering how you had found it.

That brochure makes it about as clear as you can get.  I was just looking to get a more accurate idea on the production.

I will get some pics of the interior tomorrow.  I have the rear seat and carpet out of the car.  It still has the console, and buckets in it.  Also it only has the 120 mph speedo.  I have an old 72 with a 318 that has the 150 mph speedo.  I guess everything was getting detuned more and more by '74.  Wasn't that the last year for 440's in cars?

I already have it decoded, but here is the tag layout for anyone who is wondering:

I would love to find the broadcast sheet.
