I always thought it would be cool to swap a 6.1 into a Charger. I could have HEMI badging, fuel efficiany of a new car (So it would be practical to daily-drive :nana:), and A/C.

The only thing is that I want a four speed, and they dont make 4 speed tranys for the 6.1 do they?

Would I be able to find a junkyard 6.1 longblock? Or would I have to have a 5.7?

I would. I would take any manual. Better gas mileage and more power. What not to love? BUT, where would I find one since they are just now putting them in Challengers?!?!? No new Challengers in any junkyards around me.

chargerman68

the 6.1 matches up with our old sb 727 so i dont know about an old 4 speed

contact gill on moparts  he is in the lead for these 6.1 swaps....

Good chances I will end up using a junkyard 5.7 :yesnod:

You just have to machine the flexiplate some for clearance and bolt the SB 727 there, the wiring and computer(if using ascrap one) isent easy, But i f you can afford you can buy everything allready done(wireing, computer, fueltank, mounts and headers).

yes any 5.7 or 6.1 bolts too a sb 727 sam pattern all you need is a flex plate adaptor from manicini or xv

wingcharger,

one if you use a wrecker 5.7 you can not use any of the wiring unless you can sell it off dont even take it...
two ifs its a wrecker motor make sure you grab the vin to disable the anti theft
three all you will need to convert is:

tti mounts 175
tti headers 800
flex plate-100
converting fuel system to efi-gas tank and a electric fuel pump 1000+
full wiring management system from street/performance 950

i know im forgetting something...

you can use your sb 727 linkage, driveshaft, and rearend(depending on gears)

oh yeah i have an 04 5.7 with auto trans with 50k on it full accessories,wiring,computers...everything
2000 shipped in the us only
rolling thunder is also do his in a roadrunner....

Are you going to convert it to carburated, or leave it EFI? In Mopar Action they converted it to carbureted with a kit from XV motorsports. I cant decide between the two. I want performance to blow away the ricers, but want it to be reliable because chances are it could be a daily driver. :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:

So if a SB 727 bolts up to a late hemi, will a late model overdrive bolt up to an LA motor?? Or are there issues with converter and F-plate?? Also what about the late tranny electronics? Problem or no?

:shruggy:
Which late model OD? The A518 came stock behind the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum since the early 90s so they'll bolt to any LA ever made. I can't remember which transmission is behind the new Hemi but I seem to recall that it is larger and I'm not sure how easy it would be to get it to fit in one of our old cars. All the new transmissions are electronically controlled by the engine PCM but you can get an older A518 that can function without an engine computer.
