There's danger lurking in your bathroom fan.

A guy on another forum did a test on old bathroom fans, after an apartment fire & posted some common sense food for thought for our own houses...figured I'd share. :)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I was told by a dryer serviceman that if you use Bounce sheets or something similar in your dryer you should clean the lint screen with soap and water every few months as a film builds up which blocks air flow and causes excess heat and reduces the life of your element by half.

Try this:

Remove your lint screen and run water on it lightly. You will notice that the water drops actually will rest on the top of the screen rather than run through. Then wash the lint screen with soap and water and try again. You should notice a difference. I was amazed when I did this.

You shouldn't even use flex pipe. Run solid, round ductwork.

As for the bath fan overheating, my dad was on to that 30 years ago when we lived in an apartment.
We never had an incident, but he heard or read about it somewhere and installed a timer that would shut the fan off after 30 minutes. He also upgraded the fans to cooler running units.

Being a teenager at the time, I thought he was crazy. Over the years as I learned about electrical and electronics and heat from friction in moving parts, I grew to appreciate what he did.

Thanks for posting.  I just installed a new bath fan in our bath.   Also, what James said about the dryer sheets is true.  It'll clog your dryer's filter screen over time.
