I found this in the Atlanta Craigslist ads. Good luck getting the nose back.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wan/783108519.html

During the mid 1980's I was in the process of restoring my 1970 Plymouth Superbird. I removed the nose-cone and delivered it to a local restoraton shop for repairs. After the repairs were completed but before I could install the refreshed part, it was stolen from my home garage in East Marietta. The thief advertised the nose-cone for sale in the Atlanta Advertiser with a telephone number of the Cherokee Club in Dunwoody. I responded to the ad and notified the Cobb County police, but the seller would not return my calls and the police would do nothing. Consequently, the part disappeared immediately. Whoever purchased the part from the thief is a Superbird owner because there is no other car that uses this unique part. These are rare cars, slightly over 1900 manufactured, so original parts are difficult to find.
The nose-cone was orange inside with gray primer on the outside surface. It had a small dent repaired on the top surface adjacent to the tip of the nose-cone. If you purchased this part, now you are certain that you bought it from a thief. I want my part returned! I will ask no questions. I will pay a reward for its return, if it is in good condition. Whoever has it knows that they have this specific piece.
Please email.

Thanks

Here's my  :Twocents:. If somebody does have that nose now, there's little chance they would give it back. It's a RARE and VALUABLE piece. I can't imagine someone giving a $1200+ nose for a reward which is probally only $200 or so.

It was probably close to $1200 back in the mid-late 80s.  Way north of that now, for sure.  The thief probably sold it in another geographic area just to make sure that they weren't tracked down like the first attempt.  Whoever bought the nose has probably long since painted/installed it and doesn't remember details like that.  Even if they did, the chances of that person doing the right thing and pulling the nosecone off of their 'Bird is (unfortunately) pretty low.

That being said, I can't blame the rightful owner for trying.  I've had a few things stolen over the years - some insured losses, some not - and it is no fun.

I can recall similar stories for years in wingcar newletters.Like Stuarts wing vanishing .To etc stories about wingcars in body shops and backyard body shops with the unique parts vanishing.Heard stories about wingcars shipped complete and arrived athe destination noseless and wingless. And a guy in NE PA a friend bought a 69 RR conv from .Guy had 2 superbirds in stored away in a garage and they also had vanishing noses and wings.Sadly I dont recall hearing any parts reunion stories. All we can do I keep a eye out for this activity and report it.Probably used on a actual car or its for sale..Search ads for wing parts for sale

I can understand it being stolen. BUT, you have to imagine, it could be in Mexico, guatemala, or it could have sold on ebay. The chances of finding it are extremly low. But hey, stranger things have happened.
