Daytona and 500 Production?

I need some info, basically how many 500's were produced. My Daytona question is why they only needed 500 Daytonas, but produced 503? Knowing Chrysler, they would only make what they need.

PocketThunder

392 C500's.

500 Daytonas required for regular production in order for the car to race on the track.

Are you writing a paper or doing a project?

I still can't identify 503 unique VINs.  Close, but not 503.  That's a number pulled from the Daytona Shipments list which contains a few errors/duplications.

Why does it matter?

Not right now, but this year as a freshman, I know there will be several projects or papers I have to do, and I am going to do as many as possible on AMC's and Aero Warriors. (500, Daytona, Superbird)

Really for all the aero cars its hard to prove any of the numbers that we have always heard as fact.

503 Daytona's for instance. Isn't it only 500 even?

392 500's.  Someone is claiming now that it is 585 I believe. I'll stick with the 392 until I find a three hundred and ninety third car. Which isn't going to happen any time soon (251 known)

1920 Superbird shipment list, isn't it somewhere over that number that was actually built?

All in all if you just average it all though it would be around 3,000 total Mopar Aero cars built.

I need some more production numbers.

1.Hemi 4 Speed 500's

2.Hemi Automatic %00's

3. Hemi 4 Speed Daytona's

4.Hemi Automatic Daytona's

Can't break down the AT and 4 speeds for the 500's, but I'm pretty sure there are 112 HEMI 500's that were produced. There are 87 that are known.

70 HEMI Daytona's produced, and I know Gene will give me a hard time on this, but I can't remember the break down off the top of my head.

IIRC, GG says there are 22 D21 HemiDaytonas, and I can't say any differently one way or another.  Wasn't there a number kicked around on 4-speed 500s of less than 40 at one time?

Oh, and there'll be no  :poke:  from me - I'm lucky if I can remember a handful of VINs (including my own cars), so it'd be a little hard for me to cast stones at anyone who could probably recite 75% of the 251 500s in your list and many of the Daytonas from my own list.

I have a letter that say that there was 26 HEMI 4 speed 500's built, but I personally find that hard to believe. Reason I say that is because I have 18 listed as being HEMI 4 speed cars already in the spreadsheet. I would say its probably somewhere around 35-40 of the HEMI cars were 4 speed's, just a rough estimate considering that I've always assumed that there are 112 HEMI 500's that were built. The letter that says that there was 26 HEMI  4 speeds also mentions that there was 548 total 500's built, but a letter from the same office dated 2 days later says that there were 392 built, and that 15 of them were HEMI 4 speed cars. So who knows. Same author of letters with different information on different days of the week.
