Is it true that it's illegal to do a burn out as you are pulling out or starting off from a stop light? When we were in Carlisle, Bill was going to light up our ol 70 for some fun and just as he was about to hit the gas, he spotted a cop, and the fun was off. I asked why didn't he show off for the cop in his new "charger" and he said he didn't want to get a ticket. So then we had this lengthy discussion about it and I don't know what to believe. Anyone out there know the facts?  :shruggy:

Yep, that will earn you a ticket every time.  In fact, that is how I got my first ever ticket at the age of 17 in my 70 Challenger....

If you were caught doing a burnout back in the 80's.... you could get an  "excessive noise -tires" ticket.   I'm sure the cops aren't that nice about it anymore.  :-\

Mefirst

Over here in Sweden and also in Finland doing a Burn Out will get you a winning lottery ticket from the Police...

..also if you by misstake do a burn out and an unmarked cop car is behind you, you will also have to clean off the tire rubber mess from the front end, hood and the windshield of the unmarked cop car, this while the one of the cops is writing you a ticket and the other one is looking over your shoulder to see that you do a through out cleaning job....

I got an excessive noise ticket when I was 19, back a few years now. My friends thought it was funny.  :shruggy:

+1 That's what I remember it being called myself.

Jackie is right too, PA is out of control on this one.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Got on for unsafe start in my LIL RED EXPRESS, cop was in an ally, spotted my friend working on his 70 CUDA six-pack. stop, burned em off backing up and burned  off going forward to his house. Since it was night time I did not see him not funning then but is now, 82 or 83.

Friend got one upstate. There VERY lenient about things up there. Get a ticket, go to court, you go in the little room and all sit down they say "Well bump it down to a parking violation" you then agree and pay the fine. They only want the money. PA is just ridiculous, on the way back from carlisle my buddy driving got pulled over because he had blue "halos" on the sides of his lights. NEVER once got a ticket in NY and it was sunset so there was no need to have your headlights on just yet. The cop was a total ass hole and was bs'ing about how he can get charged with a 500$ fine, bla bla bla. Gave him a 106$ ticket. My rents are retired NYPD, both of them let just about anything side if the person was nice...very old school. Heck most of the time they told me most of the time they were bored working the night shift, if the guy/gal gave them a good story they would just let em go because they were entertained for 10 min or so

One thing ill never forget. When i was working in my cousins shop a undercover cop car flys up the drive way lights blaring...were all like "God damn who did what?"

So a voice gets on the loudspeaker and says "Everyone, come out with your hands up..........And your pants down"

We all die laughing, turns out it was my pops who was in the neighborhood and wanted to stop by

;D

That is exactly what I got and it was the mid 80's.  Darn noisey tires.....

I was "warned" about it once.  Cop said he could write me up for reckless driving.

I was thinking to my self, isn't that what we're supposed to do?  Drive without wrecking?

So I guess there is a market for tire silencers? :smilielol:

went to a carshow in Cloquet, Minnesota yesterday, it was a local car club, all makes of cars involved...they had an awesome BURNOUT CONTEST....the crowd of about 2,000 sat in bleachers and gathered around the "pit." The contestant would drive his carup into position...two hook chains would secure it to ground-mounted rings, and there were cemet barriers along the sides and in front to prevent any "runaways"....the tires sat on a metal plate in the ground...a crew stood by with a high pressure hose to provide water, and each driver was given about 30 seconds to see how much smoke they could raise, as the crowd cheered their approval...

the most impressive burnout was by a 73 charger, built 440 and 727...after several lesser vehicles huffed and puffed and were surrounded by clouds so thick you couldn't see them, the charger fired up and its massive power superiority made it clear what was about to happen...it ROARED with twice the might of its competitors, and huge billows of smoke poured out of the wheel wells, pumping so thick they looked like a  storm of white paint. More importantly, it was obvious to me, and another observer i overheard, that the billows of smoke all directed out behind the vehicle, not obstyructing his view,or our view of the car...

i conclude that the sheer body design was intended that way, so street racers could have good visibilty. Another Extra Care in Engineering, from Chrysler! :2thumbs:

we were only able to get to the burnout show on saturday nite....GREAT crowd, was well organized, came off very well...they had media publicity ahead of time, and coverage, and i think that contributed to the success of selling about 2,000 or so tickets (my estimate). at $2 a head, people loved it- fun at bargain prices! and great public relations for the car club there...
