That's not a reefshark! It's a whale shark! Brock already posted pictures of what a whale shark looks like, a reef shark looks like a normal shark, not to mention it doesn't have those spots....  :slap:

If that's a whale shark, it's just a little baby. Whale sharks get about 3 times that size.
That one is about 20 feet, maybe?

I'd say it's more likely a zebra shark or monkfish. They're all from the same family of sharks: carpet sharks.

Zebra sharks and monkfish are a delicacy in Asia. If you ever see monkfish on the menu, it could be either zebra shark or monkfish as they tend to just call both by the same name when they're cooking it.

Whale sharks, zebra sharks and monkfish are skim feeders - meaning they swim with their mouths open and eat the plankton and little bits in the water. While they have lots of teeth, they are not big flesh-ripping teeth. So, they are no real danger to humans... unless one sits on ya at the park.

We were talking about this on another forum and a marine biology student said that they had looked at the photos in class. It is a whale shark and can be distinguished easily by the "dorsal" fin and the marks on it's skin (dots).

Oh, and I mixed up the monkfish reference - it's actually angel sharks that are referred to monkfish - and angel sharks get to be about 2m in length - so not even in the same range as the carpet sharks we're talking about.

Some strange deep sea shark?  Ugly looking thing, I've never seen anything like it before.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

That's called a Megamouth shark.  Its an extremely rare species of deep sea shark.  Only 39 have ever been caught, the first one was caught in 1976 by a US naval vessel when it swallowed their drift anchor.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

here's a good one.. photo at link.

ELKIN, N.C. - David Hayes' granddaughter just asked him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce.
Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie fishing rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported the catch Aug. 5 in eastern Wilkes County has been certified as a record by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
Hayes and his granddaughter have been fishing in the pond behind his house since she was big enough to hold a pole.
Hayes said his granddaughter worried he would break her rod. He landed the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, 2 inches longer than the rod.
