need frame rails??

need floor pans?

THE only thing that keeps me from cutting it up is I hold in my hand the clear title, which starts XP29H........ The last time the title changed hands was, yes i am not joking, 1973. The last time the car was registered was 1979. This thing has been sitting in a farmers field for the last 28 years rotting away. The floor pans and frame rails are almost non exsistant. Even the seat tracks are rotten away??

i don't like to see any charger parted .... but you got to ask  your self .do you really want to spend a year of your life or more   ...if your just going  do it in your spare time ....  working on it ... is it something you really want ...rare options  ...???  ... color ????  ...
:shruggy:  hard choice  as there is more & more good repop metal coming through .... not hard to restore just time consuming  :scratchchin: :shruggy:  i would have to think about this ....

Well to me plenty of photos to see there are NO rear frame rails left..... floor pans look completely gone, which usually means the torsion mount will be done for too.  I say let someone make a drag car out of it.  Heck no need to remove the back half its gone....

Sorry to say my vote is to part it.

charger_fan_4ever

Depends on how bad a guy wants to work and how much to invest in a car to restore it or sentimental value. Personally i looked at a few 2nd generation r/t's with no framerails/firewall and i wouldn't restore those cars. I held out for a r/t with a solid unibody.

Personally unless its a real hemi or 6 pack car I would let it die. When you have to change that much metal whats left of the original car other than the serial #?

My r/t does not need any unibody work , firewall, inner fenders but needs pretty much every panel replaced. If my car wasn't an r/t i wouldn't restore it.
That being said i wouldn't restore that car.

If you have the work farmed out the resto on the body alone will cost easily double what the car is worth completed. Then you have interior and mechanics to do. I have access to a professional body shop(brother) and will do alot of the work myself. With the parts and materials alone for the body and interior i'm budgeting $15,000 and that does not include the 100's of ours of work

just me.

Part it out.  I have a '69 SE in the same or worse condition and i am parting it out.  :Twocents:

I agree if the VIN number began with XS29J, XX29 or XP29B i would restore it.  :yesnod:

Hey Charged, please ease up.  :icon_smile_angry: I am not the fastest typer in the world.  :scratchchin:

Yes I am parting it out  :flame:

I posted this thing here to show how some people think that they will always get to a car and restore it and it just sits in a field and rots away.

The rear frame rails are non exsistant, the floor pans are big flakes of rust. The trans crossmember you can push through with your fingers. The rails foward good in a few spots but can not be saved and reused on something else.

As I am going through the car I am finding some real wierd stuff.

Some of the nice items left in the car is the rear window defroster, the roof is mint, I believe it would make a good canidate for a swap on a charger the rusted away under some old vinyl

There are a set of original magnum 500's with all four trim rings and center caps.

The wiring in the car is all good and I have not found a splice or cut or break anywhere. All ends are still good.

Original kick down linkage is there. Original hi-po exhaust manifolds.

The rear end is still in there resting right near the rear window valance. It is a sure grip with 3.55 gears.

It was one of those cars that you scratch you head why some one ordered some things and not others. Non power brakes but the light group, counsole, rear speakers but only an AM radio ::)

Still trying to find the build sheet but I do not think I will find that.

Also, is this an origanal charger bumper jack??

Take off all useable parts, take the remains to a scrap yard. Thats what I would do.  I done that with a rusty charger I had.

I would be shit-happy just to have that car. I dont car about condition. As long as I own one, and it is saveable. One of those projects you worl on for pretty much your whole life, and then give it too your kids.

Is that good ole MoPar plant still in there? If it is, post up!

There are a lot of decent cars that SHOULD be saved, that could use the parts off this one. I see lots of stuff.

Anyone who thinks this car should be restored: Where do you think all the parts are going to come from to restore this pile of crap?! Another pile of crap that everyone wants to save !

Part it or race car.  I hate to see one bite the dust but that one has pretty much already bitten it.  It's an organ donor and the clear title holding you back is just a life support machine.  It's time to call in the family and pull the plug.

craigandlynda

part it out. its good parts will help restore life to a brother car thats needs a few things...what's gone is gone....help the rest to live on :Twocents:

As someone who worked as a bodyman, I wouldn't even dream trying to 'restore' that car because you would have more time and money invested than the car is worth imho...

there might be some good parts in it for some of us.

I see a maybe usable roof, upper part of the rear quarters might be good for repair of an accident car.
Save as much trim as you can, keep the doors (they look usable), maybe even a rad support or stuff like that.

Who knows when you could help out a fellow member here with OEM body parts.....

I could use a piece on the driver's side where the door hinge's mount to. Mine is rusty but I have very limited cash right now.

But I agree with almost everybody else, its a goner. Part her out. Btw, could I please use the pics for my site Forgotten Mopars?

You've obviously done this before.  Smart man doing the dissecting on a trailer.

You made the right choice.  Unless there's some kind of sentimental value, you're better off doing what you're doing.  :Twocents:

leeandgrant

Yes, this is the third mopar i have cut up. :rotz: :'(

I have found it easier to cut them up on a trailer. My junk trailer sits next to it and the rusted metal items get tossed in there as I go. That way I do not have to rehandle it to take it to the junk yard. They just drop the magnet in the and clean it out.

I will cut the sheet metal away from the drivetrain and back the trailer into the building and lift the engine off the trailer.

Man, that makes me sound lazy..... :-\
