Sadly I will have to watch the movie anyways to see the scenes with the charger....

To address the soon to be whiners about this:

Although this series of movies has bashed in a couple classics, they have done less of it than the Duke boys and all the other shows threwout the years.

It also brings about a new found respect and knowledge for these cars to the younger enthusiasts and the adults that just dont know much about them...things that old people that drive them today do nothing more than repulse prospective enthusiasts and get laughed at by them for their Boomhauer and Fonzarely ways.

The "Fast and the Furious" is doing far more beneficial work for the present and future of classic mopar than dodgecharger.com  :nana:

I just noticed that the Charger has an R/T on the grille... anyone know if it's a true R/T car?  :shruggy:

Just going by the local rice crowd to me, most of the kids here talk about the Charger as "the black car that lost the race", so I'm sorry to say that I don't agree that F&F has done more for Chargers than a forum of 5600 members who are primarily here because they actually own or want to own a Charger.
And if bitching about movies where they destroy Chargers makes me a whiner, then a whiner I'll proudly be.

I'm pretty sure the charger won the race. They were letting off the throttle when he flipped it. The director made a point of showing that whats his name couldn't keep up.

Why does everyone care so much if people or a group of people dislike or aren't interested in their car? It seems on this board and the Moparts board that I see a lot of people complaining about "no one even pays attention to my car anymore". I don't know...maybe its just me, but I didn't/don't care if someone liked my car or not.

Maybe the value of our cars will spike again like last time...   As long as they don't wreck mine I don't care...

bandwagon car guys that just want attention. Not a "real car person"
Buddy of mine bought a 67 california gta  mustang. When i saw it first thing he said was do you think people will be looking at it when idrive it. He didn't care about anything else other than getting attention. The fact that it was a factory black car that had a quickie resto and painted red with the door jams left black didn't bother him as he said they won't see that when he is driving.

As far as the movie "educating" youth about the classic charger. Other than driving the price up more cause a few pretty boys with rich parents will go out and buy, driving up prices by increasing demand to look kool to their rice friends. I don't think it will do much else.

IMHO most teens will be harshly criticized by older car guys no matter what they do.

If they're not into cars at all, we call them video-game wimps.

If they drive musclecars, we're bitterly pissed because we have such a hard time affording these rare cars ourselves.  We call them spoiled brats whether that's really the case or not.

If they drive ricers, them we complain that they're disrespectful to our beloved old cars.  (90% of the ricer hobby's antagonism towards musclecars has been caused by US  not embracing THEM.  Simple fact.)

IMHO there is nothing that teens these days can do with cars, that won't get them criticized.

I agree with you here.

Allthough I still personally dont care for ricer cars.

BUT the thing Ive been saying since the ricer trend began is this :  Atleast now some of the kids are into cars again in some form, unlike the stretch in time when kids just plain did not care about cars. period

I do find the "ricer" cars annoying. Cars that are nothing more than a stock civic with loud exhaust, body kit and racing seats. There are some people who build some VERY serious tuners. I don't particularly care for cars, but I can appreciate a fast car and the time/knowledge it takes to build a car like that.

i'm 26, which i don't consider young but it's so very true. i've gotten the "pfft, must have been daddy's car/parents paid for it" thing or the "wow, someone your age into old cars like these, aint that something!"

That isn't a fair comparison really. When the "Duke Boys" went through all those Chargers, they weren't worth a damn. In many cases if WB didn't buy them they would have ended up in the junkyard. By the time the first installment of F&F came around the it was an entirely different world.

I can allways tell when some poor kid has bought some negligable used car because it came up and they could kinda sort of afford it, and they thought with a little paint and some decals and dubs they could turn it into a really bitchen sorta kinda clone..
I wince when i see them, and appreciate the desire behind the effort that goes into the personalisation of these cars - ricer or post- '72 American Iron, but wish someone with a little more experience about the hobby had convinced them to wait till a better example came along, and/or saved up enough $ to do a good job.
To me these clapped out rides scream "GHETTO"
