Help with sway bar

When my '71 Charger with 383 engine was restored in 2002, the previous owner had a sway bar added.   It appears to be the wrong size to me.   The bar measures 39" center to center on the eyelets.   The centerline of the tabs welded to the lower control arms point slightly inward.   When the links are attached to the sway bar, they face straight upward into the tabs and appear to be too wide.  The links are very close to touching the strut rods.   It appears to me that the bar should measure 36-37" eyelet to eyelet to line up properly with the tabs.   If someone with a 3rd generation Charger has a sway bar like the one on my car, I'd appreciate knowing what your bar measures.
