Jim's and mine at the Oxford show couple years back.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I bet you hit a few bumps with the guard on the front  :eek2:

I can't speak for anyone else, but my bar has never touched the ground. It actually saved my grille and hood after an incident last year (note the still busted passenger side section).

It depends on if you have a small or a wide bar and the mounting system for that particular bar. Mine mounts to the bumper brackets with 2 bolts, so I can do it alone. But my buddy has a wide one that bolts under the car and weighs like 40+ pounds, so it takes two of us to get that one on.

Do you prefer the looks of the wide or the narrow?

That price is ridiculous, if you ask me, for something you still have to do a lot of work to.

Yeah crazy. I will give him 20 bucks if he outlines a pattern made out of cardboard for the brackets....and give me tube length and diameter :D I would even paint them for that price

That auction is a wide style which mounts underneath to the frame rails. Often people drill holes and mount them with two bolts on each side. No matter how you mount one of those wide ones most users fabricate an additional mount for the very front to attach to the bumper or bumper bracket to reduce "wag".

I prefer the narrow style, but that is because I prefer the look of era that used the narrow bar versus the homogenized later style. I can see the functional appeal for the wide bars as those provide lots of additional protection. I know it is never supposed to be used, but I learned the hard way that you may end up putting that bar to the test.

Very nice general towman! It really looks awesome, love the seatbelts, but don't you need to wrap that rollbar with something, would be kind of hard to hit your head on in an accident.

When I was 8 or 9, I watched DOH reuruns, and I always thought the General Lee had a orange Vinyl roof from the trim until I finally saw upclose pictures when I was 11 in a magazine. Hey, I was 9!

Mike DC

That's funny.  Not many 9yo kids would have the knowledge to know that the vinyl top trim signals a vinyl top at all.

The TV-series GLs all had them because the first one they ever built had been hit on the LR quarter and then hastily repaired (during its real-world life).  The TV crew left the trim on because it concealed a crappy rivet-job on the replacement quarter skin.

The rest of the cars were kept that way for continuity.  Most of the street cars they got had been built with the vinyl tops anyway, so they were only having to add it onto a small number of cars they got with hardtops.
