Its not as exciting as that '72 V code Runner. This is a "P" code car. Orange with the Tank Track decals on the fender/hood and the strobe stripe on the rear pillar. Body looks pretty good, theres no rot that I can see. Theres some normal body damage here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Looks to be original paint. I'm going to go back later today to get some better pictures. I didn't look inside to see if it was an auto or standard. Could you get a 4 speed with a 400 in '72? What would be a fair price on something like this? I know its not much info to go on, but I'll have some more pictures up later around 7 or 8. I'm hoping to pick this one up.

Very Cool.. 72 is the best year for RoadRunners  :drool5:

AFAIK you could get a four gear in any V8 in 1972

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

WINGR

Hi, that Runner looks pretty decent. I used to have a 72 with a 400/4-speed so they do exist. Mine was painted orange but was an original black car with a gold stripe. Wish I still had that one but you can't have them all. If for some reason you decide not to get her please PM me the information.

Good Luck

I'll get some more pictures so you guys can get a better idea of the condition its in and maybe a price range. Its my understanding that for the RR in '72 you could get the 340 and the 400, which both made about the same horsepower? Then Plymouth also had the RR GTX model that had a 440? I'm guessing the 340 RRs are more sought after since the horsepower ratings are similar, but the 340 is lighter weight?

Rolling_Thunder

The 340 makes for a better handling car for sure - but i wouldn't say the 340 is any more desirable than the 400 or 440
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

konigcharger

in 1972 the 340 was rated as 240hp/ 290 ft. lbs torque  the 400 was rated at 255hp/ 340 ft. lb torque  :2thumbs:

remember: there is no replacement for displacement  :yesnod:

Harlow

Sorry for all the questions, but do you guys know of any parts that are hard to come by for the '72? Konigcharger mentioned the grill (which looks good on this car), anything else that I should look for?

konigcharger

rear bumper and taillights are the only things i can think of (other than sheet metal) that was year specific on the exterior, i cant remember if they rae repopping upper door panels yet but i remember them coming up in conversation, other than that most of the interior parts are available or at least interchangeable 1971-1974 B Body.  :icon_smile_wink:

If you're interested in doing a little reading and learning about what was available on the RR here's the

69CoronetRT - thanks for the links. I took a look through the data book theres definetely a lot of information to be had in there. I'll have to read through the whole thing if I end up buying it.

I went by to check it out again. It moved across the street again. The first time I saw it, there was a woman in her front yard where the car was parked and I asked her if she knew anything about it. She said she had never seen the car before and didn't know who owned it. The next time I went by (when I got the first pic) the car was moved directly across to the other side of the street and now when I went back again today it was moved back to the spot where I originally saw it. I left a note earlier today and I saw the note was now inside the car sitting on the passenger seat.

Unfortunately a couple of the pictures didn't turn out well at all (moved the camera too early). The interior is pretty beat up. The dash is all cracked, door panels a little ratty, seat covers over the front seats. It has an aftermarket automatic shifter. Good news is it seems like the car is drivable since its been moving around. The body looks good. I wonder what happened to the paint on the drivers rear quarter, trunk lid? I'm thinking someone did some body repairs and never got around to repainting it.

I'll just have to wait and see if he gives me a call. Atleast the note wasn't just crumpled up and thrown in the trash or on the ground or something. He just laid it on the seat.

maybe it has a 440 in it going by the license plate...  :shruggy:

I picked up this cars near twin about 5 years ago. EV2 on black 400 slapstick, but with a little more dress chrome. As far as I know, they did not sell the cars with both strobes - just the fender OR roof.

Check the grille close. I have seen them go for $2k on eBay, so you want something repairable. The plastic is thin, so a car from AZ probably has a lot of heat warps in it. This grill was only used on the RR, not the Satellite. Taillights are unique to 72. 72 Satellite Sebring will do - you just have to paint them black instead of silver. A lot of parts interchange with 71-72 B-bodies and some with 73-74. They made just over 7k RR's in 72 making them reasonably low production. Most were 400's. Not many 340's comparably, and very few 440's.

Good luck.

Skyview69

I just went to look at a 73 Road Runner two days ago. The car was drag raced at some point so the inner fenders are cut out.  It is basically a shell but has the 400 for it.  It is a four speed car -0very rough.  He is losing his home so the car must go.  He will take any offers -if he can't sell it he will scrap it for $400 for the metal.  If anyone is interested I can get a phone number just PM me. He has a 67? Coronert 440 4 dour also for sale. There is a good condition passenger side door for a 73 or 74 Charger broughm with power window as well.  The car is located in Michigan.

ALL cars have a one year only style in grill/taillights.  Except your 73/74 mopars.  Those years look the same in just about everything.

How do you know the car is for sale ? What does he want for it ?

I never said it was for sale. I have no idea if he even wants to sell the car.

ACUDANUT

Well, good luck. At least you know it runs !

Years ago in high school auto shop a guy would drive in his mom's 1972 340 RR with roof strobe.  But he was a real a-hole, would never show us the car.  He looked like an ugly short Greg Brady, so we called him "Greg Brady", of course.

I still liked his car and that oddball grille.
Do I have the last, operational Popcar Spacemobile?

really... no shit... i guess 1971 R/T's and 500's don't have the same taillights :scratchchin: then they definately aren't the same for 1972 rallyes then huh...  how about 1971 charger coupe grilles i guess it would be nearly impossible to paint them black and pass them off as r/t superbee grilles.
