Watching CNN, you would think it leveled Chino Hills.  Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Looking at the cameras, it looks like business as usual out there. The O.J. footage was better than this.

Felt it pretty good (work on the 16th floor). Nothing all that scary by SoCal standards...just the type where you sit back and go for a ride. All my yenta co-workers freaked out though, which is always amusing.

During the severe thunderstorms on Monday evening (June 16), there were a few isolated cells in the region ahead of the main line that had some rotation. One of these was in Newburgh, NY across the more suburban area near the Thruway along Route 52, which had sufficient rotation to generate a tornado.

But I'll agree with you on not having that same mega earthquake s**t CA does, just wimpy ones that could've even been a big truck going by.

I happen to be in LA ( Chatsworth ) from Ohio. I have never felt a quake before. We were told it was centered about 25 miles from where I am at. I would hate to be here for the big one.

  Don't sweat it, down here in San Diego, we crap bigger than 5.8's. The So. Cal. mountain hillbillys with 6 months of supplies & a 1000 rounds of ammo say..."Bring it on, were ready for the big one."

All I know is that I was awake and didn't feel a freakin' thing.  Neither did two of my neighbors, but my friend who just moved here from Va. who lives up the street felt it and flipped her lid.  and my other neighbor was at work and felt it...nothing big here.  A few friends of mine on my MS forum who live in Riverside said it was pretty bad out there and one even has damage to her house.....yeah 5.4 (the final verdict on magnitude) isn't too bad, but I will take that over a 6. whatever or higher....that's when the crap hits the fan.  Oh and by the way the 2.1 in NJ is a freakin joke....they barely felt that crap.  I know I have family there!

 It's not allways the magnitude that is the issue,..
Relatively weak jolts can cause unreinforced structures to fail, like the brick facades that crushed folks leaving work and sitting in cars here in S/F. in the Loma Priata quake. Older buildings can slip off the foundations, garages can pancake, landslides can cause massive distruction and loss of life.
I have a healthy fear of the Financial Dist. Here, I've seen the reports that warn of 6 feet of shattered glass, in the valleys between highrises.
