not the post you were thinking of.
i spend alot of time on the interstates and notice that nobody flashes their headlights to oncoming traffic to signal a radar trap is ahead.was a common practice 20 years ago. i must be the only one without a radar detector.

True. I've also heard you could get a ticket for doing so if they catch you...................not sure if thats true............anyone?

I'll tell you this - I've been pulled over and sternly warned not to do that, at a time when I didn't do it in the first place.  This has happened to me twice so far.

i have no problem with warning oncoming drivers to check their speed by flashing lites, or using hand signals...all too often radar is used to "trap" drivers who may, unintentionally, drift over the limit; such as a slight downhill or into a sharply dropping speed limit zone....i am convinced that there is a financial incentive in many parts of the country for radar and other "speed traps"....if police wanted to slow people down, they would park out in the open where they could be seen.....not hide in the bushes like a sniper waiting for a victim... :Twocents: :Twocents:

anyway, about flashing lites- if you pass a trap and flash your lites using your headlite switch, your taillites also lite up, and the cops might see that. instead, on the newer cars, if you pull on the turnsignal lever, only the headlites will flash...

oh, BTW, excessive speed on the public roads is not a good idea...key word there is "excessive".

When I lived in Southern Cali. many, many, moons ago, there was a scare about people flashing their lights at people to let them know their lights were not on. ::) Well, it was because gang bangers were driving without lights on purpose,.......if you flashed them ,....you got shot at!!! :rotz: I believe it was an initiation thing for some gangs down there! "Idiots!!!" :slap:

Sometimes I do... but I generally drive the same route everyday to work and back... if some dumbazz is blatently speeding or whatever - let them be part of the trooper's quota and not me.

God bless cruise control. Around here it isn't too hard to spot em, no tree's/brush along the interstate. I've been stopped at a speed trap twice, both times in my old 85 Diplomat. Cruise control wasn't very smooth in that hog.

have been pulled over for flashing in Florida..It is illegal.
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

Pretty much my thoughts as well.  If some idiot wants to speed its his own fault when he gets busted.

Check out Snopes for the low down on this urban legend!

I don't put much faith in Snopes. Be sure to see what their source is on any given subject. Many times you'll find it is some unknown reporter or Joe blow that wants to explain how the aliens came and abducted him.

Well. as far as this story goes, I've heard it from about four different people in four different parts of the continent and I have yet to hear an actual news story to back it up.

As to flashing my lights to warn someone about a radar trap, I don't bother.

Regarding someone coming at me with high beams on - I'll give 'em a quick flash as a reminder and if they don't comply, mine go on and stay on until their's go off.

I have heard about that gang initiation thing around here too because in the next town over there are two well-known gangs of which I have never seen any members.
