The brick wall icon is very appropriate for me in this case because it's what i've been doing for the last couple months.  Maybe you guys can help.

I'm requesting help in recovering my 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T that was stolen from my property on Saturday April 27th or early April 28th.  The Vin for my car is JS23N0E129586.  The car is painted dark blue (B5 blue I think) with a gray/brown pinstripe and is wearing Keystone mag wheels, with P245 60 R15 Challenger brand tires in back and Goodyear Eagle GT II tires in front.  The Eagle GT II's are badly dry rotted with metal being exposed on the treads by large cracks in the rubber.  The car has front disc brakes (these are not original) with a drum brake master cylinder.  The rear drums are painted the same blue color as the car.  The car was originally EF8 dark green metallic from the factory and there is still plenty of green paint on the car.  The car has a black interior.  The seats are in very good shape except for a rip close to the door of the driver side seat.  The dash is a '71 or later dash and has several large cracks in it.  The steering wheel is a '72 and up model with the two spokes with three holes in each.  The steering wheel is also rapped in vinyl.  The steering column and the metal parts below the dash are also painted blue and the vinyl framing around the instrument cluster is mismatched, the piece nearest the door is a '70 piece and the other piece is '71 and up.  The car also has a small red oil pressure warning light near the ash tray and a confederate flag sticker in the ash tray.  The driver side floor mat is tore up and the black carpet is sun faded.  The car also has a Sun Super Tach II attached via a hose clamp to the steering wheel.  The drive train consists of a 440 magnum with an 800 cfm Edelbroke carb.  The carb is and looks fairly new and the engine is clean and nicely painted orange with Mopar performance alunimum valve covers.  The engine also had an alunimum Mopar Performance water pump and water pump housing and the crank and water pump pulleys were both chrome.  The engine had a 7 blade clutch fan for cooling which I have been told is rare.  The engine has 452 heads.  The transmission is an 18 spline Hemi 4sp.  The intake is Edelbroke performer rpm.  Engine is equipped with a somewhat corroded set of Ceramic coated TTI headers.  The engine is coded F440 9-12 HP and is a heavy connecting rod motor (6 pack type).  The car has small patch panels welded into the rear quarter panels and rust around the back window.  The back window rust had been fixed before and had come back and the previous owner had tried to keep the paint from bubbling with clear silicon.  There is also rust bubbling through in the quarters in front of the rear tires and an area on the passenger door rocker panel that appears to have some bondo.  There is also a Christian Fish on the trunk lid.  I would say the car as a whole is a condition 2 car.  The car has air shocks with a hole cut in the trunk pan for the air nozzle.  I'm enclosing a couple of pictures and if I can think of anymore info I'll email it.  My car also has a small rectangular hole cut in the bottom of one of the rear frame rails near the shock.  I believe this hole is on the passenger side.  The car also has an NC inspection sticker on the driverside windshield close to the door and a Virginia inspection sticker in the center of the windshield just above the hood.  Both are expired and even if they are removed it should leave a mark on the windshield.

Bummer about the Challenger theft. What location was it taken from?

thecarkid1970

Hello everyone, I should have included my whereabouts but I live near Chapel Hill NC.  The car was originally from Virginia and had a Virgina inspection sticker near the center of the windshield just about the hood as well as a NC inspection sticker on the driver side windshield.  Someone might have to change windshields to remove evidence of these stickers.

Joe.

I live in North Carolina. I'll put the word out about the Challenger.

thecarkid1970

Thanks Carolina Charger I appreciate you putting the word out for my car.

Joe.

ACUDANUT

Man I am so sorry about your Challenger.   I would hang the thief, if I found him.  This makes me want to get a low-jack anti theft system installed asap.

hotrod98

Hate to hear this.
Thank god for insurance though. If someone steals one of mine, I'll have enough to buy two more the way the economy is right now.
When I buy a new one, I always insure them high before I even leave to go pick them up.

I hate to even think where this car is at this point.  A new vin and hauled to a state like mine(maine) all you need is a bill of sale and bam new owner.  That sucks bigtime and hope you get your car back.

thecarkid1970

I appreciate you all looking for my car.  I think you make a very good point Mike, they probably did take the car to another state and slap a new vin on it.  I think I might try to call someother state DMVs and see if they've registered any 70 Challengers in the last 4 months.  I wouldn't think there would be that many of the cars out there.

Joe.

dukeboy_318

you might be surprised, i didnt think there were very many chargers in my area but recently ive seen a ton around town. good luck finding the car

Hello 69 bronze T5,

I intend to keep working on finding my car.  I hope it turns up somewhere.  There is a really infuriating article in this months MCG magazine about a stolen '68 Charger.

The purple one with the blower I assume? That's a really sad story. Again, good luck!

I'd be right back to where this tip came from and start digging there.  Where did the informant get the information, etc....  Where in Southern Maryland by the way.  Maryland is very small and Southern Maryland and Northern Maryland are very different to say the least. Southern and Eastern shore regions of Maryland emulate a Southern culture, while the North in and around Baltimore and DC act more like the Northeast.  That being said, the cities and counties to be paying attention to are in Calvert(Prince Frederick) County, PG county, and most of all, St Mary's(Lexington park) county. If it's there I would bet it's in St Mary's county :yesnod:  Waldorf, St Charles, Lexington Park, Chaptico, Hollywood and so on.
I wouldn't think it would be in the Solomons Island or Chesapeake Beach area as they are mostly weekend tourist resorts.
Listen real close when you talk to SMIBs because they can be very difficult to understand due to having their own style of language.  :yesnod: :o  Unintelligible is an understatement.

Here's a suggestion.... Maryland International Raceway and Budds Creek Raceway are very popular race tracks and attract a ton of people.  I'd drive up and hang out in those 2 places for a few days during race season.  That is where you are going to find out if your car is in Southern Maryland.

I agree with Mike , hanging out or maybe developing some contacts around those race tracks could be a big help. I live in northern Baltimore County Maryland which is about 2hrs. north of that area. I'll keep my eyes and ears open. You may also want to try this forum www.cuda-challenger.com or the Moparts forum. You could also check the southern Maryland craigs list, if the theif were to try to sell it he would probably go local rather than national since it's stolen. Good Luck
