I didn't notice the bumperettes, but I did notice the whtie walls, as the other guy said, they seem too wide.

And yes, RDR 838 plates are a must!

They are about 1/4 inch too wide but they re what they are.  :icon_smile_wink:

Where can I get a set of the plates?

I found the email-adress of the guy who sells the plates (16.96 each plus shipping), I'll send you a personal message!

About the whitewalls:

This is the Charger that was crashed in the end, the tires had very thin white walls:

And this one was used for the first few shots, it differs from the car above, the most obvious difference is the tires:

So in my eyes the tires you have look very good!

I was wrong! :o  Wow. I never noticed the wider whitewalls from those still movie shots! - Good eye.  :2thumbs:  It appears the tires must have been changed during the car(s) filming  ...Those tires got "heated up" many times :D. I'm sure the original set didn't last very long with that type of abuse :icon_smile_wink:

All 440 Chargers with 14" wheels should've came with F70x14 tires. I'm pretty sure they would have been Goodyear custom wide tread which was a 3/8" white stripe (std) or optional redline from the factory.

I put incorrect style skinny whites on my 1967 (that weren't available until 1968) ....and nobody has ever questioned it.  ;)  My car would have came with wider whitewalls from the factory....and of course hubcaps.

Why were the bumperettes removed?  Werent these cars bought at the local dealership and driven to the movie set?

No, there were two cars, the one with the wider stripe is the one that was used in the first few scenes and for the first few interior shots. Compare the mirrors, one is the non-remote, the other one the remote mirror.

The one with the non-remote (and the skinny whitewall) was originally blue and painted black for the movie. It's the one that gets crashed in the end.

I read somewhere that they changed to smaller tires to slow the Charger down because it was 'running circles around the Mustang'. Looks like they didn't have two sets of the same kind.

Both cars were bought at the same dealership but I forgot the name of it, it was close to LA.
My guess is that there was a camera installed right next to the license plate during some shots, at least it could have been planned. I have absolutely no proof for that guess except in some shots you can see some white circle where the left bumperette should be:

No footage was used from this angle, though, that's why I say I have no proof for that.

Another guess would be that they thought the car would look even meaner with no vertical chrome-pieces in place. They modified the Mustang quite badly so why not modify the Charger's looks? Blasphemy, I know... No need to change the looks of a Charger!

Hi guys,

I just registered here because someone told me you were looking for RDR838 Cali Black plates from the movie Bullitt.

I'm the guy who makes them for both the Mustang and Charger. I see one of you found the link to me on the German Ponysite.

You can also find the plates on IMBOC.com (the Bullitt site) http://www.imboc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128682&page=5

Anyway, I always have 'em if you ever want them. Also t-shirts for Mustang, could make some for Charger too.

Thanks,

CG

Hi Carl!

Good that you found this site, I wasn't sure if I should post your private email-adress here but I guess it would have been okay!

I will have the plates you sold me 2 years ago on my car this weekend at the German Mopar Nationals! I'll post pictures on Monday!

Take care & Auf Wiedersehen!

Hey man if you made that "Real heros" shirt with the Charger in the pic you could sign me up for 10 of those. Maybe change it to "Real men" or something since the bad dudes werent exactly heros. Cool stuff though.
