So I was googling around for a 1968 Charger and found this forum. I used to own a '70 R/T 440 which I gave away for a price too low to mention. So 13 years later I'm shocked to see the prices of these cars. Is this now an "elitist" type of group where you have to be either lucky or extremely rich to own one?

Or is it still possible to find a '68 at a reasonable price?

Death to ebay!

I'm looking for a '68 Charger that is not completely rusted out. Are there any left that are not astronomically priced?

Thanks,
Ken

I sold a fairly solid 69 2 weeks ago for $5,000 no motor tranny and need paint and interior.

I guess, what you are speaking of in terms of $$$ maybe realitve,  MOST of us here I would not think are elisist?  I certainly am not.....

They are out there. "Astronomically" priced is a subjective term, so keep looking. A good '68 XP runner, not rusted out, with most parts intact, needing a paint job and some TLC will probably run between $8,000 and $15,000. Quite a range, granted, but they exist. They are just not easy to find. If you want an R/T, you will pay at least 50% more.

And welcome to the site!

Welcome, and there are still deals out there, I bought two 68 Chargers out of Nampa Idaho about five years ago for under 5k, sold one to help pay for the restoration of the other.  They are still there you just need to keep at it.  Good luck with the search!  were you from?

Welcome and remember, they may cost a lot, but they resell for even more.  :2thumbs:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I bought a 1968 charger last year (I was 17 then) for 8,000. It ran and drove and was pretty much all there minus a few trim pieces. It was definitely a project and it took me about a couple years worth of searching (had to find one local) before I found it. Sure glad I did though.
Good luck in your search!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I'm bummed because when I was about 17 I bought a '70 R/T with no engine or trans for $125.00. It had a solid body and I cleaned it up and bought a 440 and rebuilt it and like a dummy sold it before I painted it. I sold it for about $1500.00. That was 1995. I was still living at home and my Dad does not like Mopars so he made me get rid of it. THAT sucked. Now if I want one I have to pay BIG bucks. I am saving for one now and hopefully I will find one that is somewhat reasonable. I'm in the SW suburbs of Chicago and these beauties are rare around here.  :'(

Welcome to the site.  Project Chargers are out there, but the prices have gone up over the past few years.  Twenty years ago, $1000 might net you a rough, running small block or rusty RT needing alot of work (missing stuff most of the time) if you were in the right place at the right time.  Nowdays, $1000 might net you a mint grille or set of fenders on a good day.  To prove a point about the market for these cars, I will let you in on one of my recent "finds" that I turned down (I have gotten more picky over the years).  I was told of two 1969 318 Chargers for sale for $300, but the catch is that they were stripped, very rusty shells in a very hard to reach rural place (trees everywhere).  They had been in the flood of 1993 up to the roofs, so not much left of them was usable to me.  Someone did buy them (probably for the VINs), so that tells you that even unrestorable shells are being hunted down now.  My advice is to check all of the unbeaten paths as you never know what you might find.  The more you look, the better your chances are at finding what you are looking for......
