Dubbing protected VHS tapes and DVD's...

Trying to dubb some of my old VHS tapes to DVD for personal use; however, have had no such luck.  Has anyone used or purchased Dimax/Grex http://www.xdimax.com/common/default.html?  Anyone have something else?

Seems like a nice little system.  Pretty cheap too.  Let us know if you get one and how it works.

i dont get the idea of converting vhs to dvd  regaurdless you still only have vhs quality on a dvd .    i just replace my vhs collection buying dvds at yard sales and flea markets for about $2 - $3 a dvd .

I agree!!!

Or buying "previously viewed" ones at the video store. At least if they don't work, you can take them back!
On another note: I do want to get my wedding video (which is on vhs) put on dvd.

1) 25 years worth of auto racing that isn't available on DVD (races I drove in and others)

2) I have several great movies that aren't available on DVD

3) 20 years worth of canadian vacations that aren't available on DVD

Wouldn't protected also be construed as the removal of the anti erasure tab on the back of the cassette?

All I did was offer 3 great reasons as to why.

I can give you a few GREAT reasons to movie things from VHS to DVD's.

1) VHS can get moldy, DVD's DON'T. So if you store VHS in say a closet for years upon years, and then try to watch them, chances are some will have mold growing on them. And that doesn't go over too well once you try to play it. Have to take the tape apart, and clean the mold off of each frame.

2) VHS quality deteriorates each time that you play the tape. So if you watch the same home movie 50 times, the quality continues to go down the more and more you watch it. However DVD quality is the same after 250,000 viewings.

3) VHS tapes take up a ton of room if you have several hundred as I do. Hundreds of DVD's can be stored stacked in a pancake package, and take up about 4"x5"x6". Where as 200 VHS will take up about 48"x48"x10".

I converted all of my VHS tapes to DVD a few years back. Then I went straight from that to making a 2nd copy of everything, and storing it at a different location.
