Anyone know if all of internals will fit?
Need to keep 7290 yoke for drive shaft to fit!!

Have a few setting 489s around and want a stronger unit found out yokes are different!!

Going into 73 Charger

If the suregrip came out of a 741 it's probably the cone type.  Since you are upgrading and the price of new suregrips has come down so much you may be better off with a new plate type.  O/W, the suregrips interchange from one third member to another as long as the bearings match that third member.  The 7290 yoke doesn't have anything to do with the suregrip.  There are actually 4 yokes.  big and small spline and 7260 and 7290----the 7290 being the stronger---2-5/8 inch.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Time to do some reasearch...Thanks

All 8 3/4" Sure-Grip units are interchangeable as long as the matching bearing cup and cone are used.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

so if i have a 3.55 suregrip with an alburn and want to switch to a 489 case and larger yoke for big block this could happen.  im think the carrier bearings are different sizes?  Can this even ebe done

All 8 3/4" differentials are interchangeable in the various housings (741, 742, 489) but the bearing hub on the differential is different on some units; this only affects the bearing interchangeability not the differential interchangeability...as long as the bearing is correct for the Auburn, it will fit any housing.
