My '68 Has '69 Doors what is needed to "correct" this?

I just got my Charger in the fall and am learning tons about them.  I just figured out my '68 has '69 doors (lock button is in the middle not on the end) but it does have the black door button.  I am not a concors restoration kind of guy but I like my interiors/exterior to be correct appearing at least.  Do I need to replace the entire door with a '68 door or is there a simpler way to correct this?  All my interior panels need to be restored anyway so I am not concerned with any differences there.  Thanks in advance!

Not really.. If you're not totally freaked out that the door lock knob is further back, leave it.................. But, if you want to make it look correct, then place the '69 upper door bolster on, mark the sheetmetal where the lock knob is supposed to go, take off the bolster and then drill out the hole similar in diameter to the existing '68 position. You'll need to get the '69 version of the locking mechanism for the lock knob, but everything else should be the same...........

Can you not just cut a hole further back?  I do not know the exact measure but that could be done.

You do not have to change the doors. I have a 68 door on my charger and i converted it to a 69. You just need the linkage from a 68 door and drill a hole in the correct location for the lock knob to go through. I put up pics on here, just do a search.   :2thumbs:

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

cool, wanna trade mechanisms? :icon_smile_big:  I have the correct for a '69 upper pad, that is why I had no idea something was amiss until I saw a thread about how on a 69 your arm hits the lock button when you lay it on the door and I had just noticed that the day before on my Charger.  Anyone know where you can get the correct linkage?  Or is this a swap meet part?  Thanks for the replies :2thumbs:

I cannot find that link, I am not a very good researcher :shruggy:

doors are way different behind door card but you can throw it together. and don't forget you still have to weld the holes up.  i would leave the doors alone or get 68's.

Why weld the holes? they are coverd by the upper door pads.

Here is the link where i did  my door.

Thanks for the link I searched for it but couldn't find it.  That linkage you used looked new, where did you get it?  also are the mounting points for both '68 and '69 linkages in each door?
